Crazed LoverA Story by BlackBoxA crazed, not named, man stalks a girl who he believes is his true love. After she is seen with another guy he sets out for revenge.I wanted to see her
again, and I will. However, just like any other day she won’t know I’m there.
She won’t know that I exist. She might see me, but she won’t know that we’re
together; well, in my mind at least. I wish we could be real. She would never
date someone like me though, I’m too ugly. I’m too ‘weird’ she would say. I’ll
show her though. I’ll show her and everybody else! Her name is Nicole
Bixby. Her hair is an artificial red, almost like a ripe gala apple. One time I
got close enough to her to see her eyes and they were a bright blue. I can’t
stand having to be so far away all the time. It kills me a little bit each and
every day. I waved and said hi once as we crossed each other’s paths on 6th
street. She looked disgusted as she saw me and I felt insecure. Was it the way
I talked? Was it the way I was dressed? I went home that night and cut each of
my wrists three times and deprived myself of food. It was the only way I knew
how to punish myself for such embarrassment. I followed her more
closely the next few weeks trying to figure out what type of guy she was into.
She went into a bookstore on October 23rd, it was a Thursday. She
bumped into this guy: tall, brown hair, skinny, white teeth, hazel eyes. He was
wearing skinny jeans a t-shirt and a scarf; His name was Brad. While talking to
Brad she had a smile and she touched his right arm gently as if they were
really hitting it off. Before they left the bookstore and went their own ways
they traded phone numbers. Ugh, how could she like someone like that?! I
decided to follow him the rest of the day to get to know how he acts. He went
to a Starbucks just down the street and ordered a venti caramel frappe. He then
spent an hour in a GameStop talking to one of the employees. He must be a
regular. He walked arrogantly as if everything he did impacted everyone’s day
to day life. I hated him already. I couldn’t stand the thought of him possibly
stealing the girl of my dreams. I followed him home and wrote down his address.
It was 4:56pm, plenty of time to get my equipment. 5:30pm I arrive at my
house across town. I open the door to the sweet scent of cherry from my pile of
air fresheners, it is almost intoxicating. I walk into the spare bedroom and
open the drawer that I keep all my knives in. I inspect them all carefully
making sure to grab the right one for the occasion: a scalpel. I make sure to
take latex gloves, a tarp, bleach, a sponge, a bucket and a duffel bag from the
closet. By the time that I got back to my car it was 6:30pm just in time to see
the sun setting. I parked across the street from Brad’s at approximately 7:04pm
and waited for him to go to sleep. I sat and listened to my classical music mix
tape until I saw the last light in the house switch off. 10:37pm: go time. I
jump out of my car with the duffel bag strapped across my shoulder. I walk up
to the back door of the house and try the lock. I thought to myself, this
b*****d doesn’t even lock all his doors! I slowly closed the door behind me
tiptoeing up the stairs to the bedroom I watched him enter. As I got to the top
of the stairs there was a creaky board that made a shriek that filled the
upstairs. I heard him arise from bed and ask, “Is anyone there?” I stopped dead
in my tracks making sure I didn’t move a muscle. A couple minutes later I heard
him get out of bed to investigate what he had heard, I guess now was better
than never. I ran into the bedroom slamming the door behind me, pushing Brad
onto the floor. “What the hell,” I heard him scream. “Shut up, Brad,” I said
snidely, “trust me this wasn’t the plan I had in mind. You were supposed to be
in bed sleeping as I took my knife and cut off each ear, and then I would spoon
out your eyeballs and on and on until you died. However, now I must change the
whole play! First you try to take my woman and now this! Who. Do. You. Think.
You. Are?” Brad still lying on the
ground asked fearing for his life, “What girl?”
“The girl at the
bookstore: Nicole Bixby! She is such a beautiful girl; I would do anything to
keep her, even if it means killing you!” I pounced on top of
Brad and stabbed the scalpel into his chest, pulling it through to his stomach.
He let out a horrid scream as he bled out. I carefully licked the blood off the
edge of the scalpel, mmm it was still warm. As I started the
cleaning process, pulling out my knife, I heard my phone ring. “Hello mother,”
I said franticly, “I can’t really talk at the mo-” “Oh Honey, how have you
been?” “Uh I’m fine mom, but
look…” “I wanted to call and
see what you’ve been up to, how is work going?” “I told you I quit my
job a while ago, it was too much stress to keep in my life.” “You loved that job so
much though! Why would you do something like that? Now how are you supposed to
pay rent and get groceries?” “Mother I’m going to
get another job and be just…” “Here I’ll come over
tomorrow and cook you a good meal and…” “NO! I mean, its fine
mom I don’t need you to come over. Look I can’t talk right now I’ll call you
back later.” “You don’t talk to me
that,” I hung up the phone before she could start rambling again. I pick up the trash bag
with all the ‘loose ends’ in it and hurl it over my shoulder. I walk to my car
and put the bag into the trunk and drive 50 miles to the farthest abandoned
lake out of town. I take the bag and throw it into the lake watching it sink to
the bottom. The feeling of satisfaction and happiness engulfed my entire body
putting a smile on my face. The next morning I knew
exactly what I had to do. I went straight to Nicole and I’s normal meeting
spot. It’s a place downtown called ‘A Baby’s Haven,’ she works here. I watch
from across the street as she helps customers with their purchases and talks to
mothers about their babies and how they’re doing. She will be the perfect
mother one day. I usually don’t do this but today was different, today was a
special occasion. Around 9:00pm is when Nicole closes the shop. Today she is
all alone, so right before she started to lock the door I dashed inside and
started to look around. “What a wide selection you guys have,” my voice was
shaking because I was so nervous to even have the slightest conversation with
her. “We have everything
from baby food, to formula, clothes, bottles, books; if you name it we probably
have it!” I could tell she had said this many times before, as if it was on a
looped record. “I see that you guys
are out of stock of the teething toys, do you have any in the back per chance?” “Hmm, that’s strange
let me go look in the back.” I waited a few seconds before following her to the
back room. “Sir you can’t be back
here,” she was stern but polite. “I just wanted to make
sure you didn’t get lost back here by yourself. It is an awfully big and
cluttered room.” I held her hand and she jerked it away. “I’m going to have to
ask you to leave!” This time she wasn’t so polite, I could hear the anger in
her voice. “That’s not going to
happen, Nicole,” I grabbed her by the arm and took her out the back door
leading to the alley. She started wailing at the top of her lungs screaming for
help and fighting to get away from me. I put my hand over her mouth to muffle
her screams, but it didn’t do any good. I grabbed a glass bottle from the
ground and smashed it over her head knocking her out, silencing her screams. I
lay her down checking the streets for any witnesses. Then I dragged her
lifeless body to the end of the alley to the backseat of my car. As she awoke tied to a
chair in the spare bedroom of my apartment she was very confused. She started
to squirm trying to release her hands and feet. I watched in the dark and for
every minute that she continued to try to escape I felt hurt. Why was she
trying to run away from me? All I want to do is love her! Seeing her face every
day is the only thing that makes me happy in this godforsaken world. I won’t
let her hurt me anymore. I went to the desk drawer and took out a long serrated
blade. I took her arm and started sawing right below the shoulder. She cried
out for help screeching at the top of her lungs, it sent chills down my spine.
This was her fault; if she wouldn’t have tried to escape I would’ve never
brought myself to this. I just wanted to be happy… Outside in the distance
I heard sirens. I jerked my head up and went straight to the window; they were
outside my apartment complex. Maybe it’s for someone else in the building? I
heard a knock at the door, “Police, open up!” How could this be? I took every
precaution possible to not get caught. I slammed the spare room shut as I heard
the front door being knocked down. I locked the door and tried for the window.
The damn thing won’t open, it’s stuck! I took a hammer and started breaking the
glass, but I was too late. Two officers had grabbed my legs and pulled me onto
the ground. No matter how hard I tried to get away it was impossible.
******************************************************************** Two years later. As I shuffle down this corridor all I can do is think about
Nicole; it’s the only thing I’ve been able to think about since I’ve been here.
I think of all the times we could have spent together. Why did it have to end
this way? It’s so cruel and heartless how they could put someone down just like
a dog. We entered the room and I was told to sit in the chair in front of me.
They strapped me in making sure I didn’t escape. They flipped a switch and I
could see Nicole and Brad’s family on the other side of the glass. Some were in
tears, others were fuming with hatred. The guard, with needle in hand, asked
me, “Is there any last words you wanted to say?” I looked at the guard and then straight into the eyes of Nicole’s
mom, “I just wanted to be happy.” © 2014 BlackBoxAuthor's Note
