In the very first season, Kenpai begins learning how to use his inner spiritual ( KAI ) energy to form a NINDO. That is just the overall name for a shinobi's abilities. Though, Kenpai finds it increasingly difficult to master because he wasn't born a shinobi in the first place. So, using the alternative of his katana; ATHENA, he is able to stand up to his fellow ninja classmates, one of which, wishes him dead.
A Ninja Nindo
Nindos are unique fighting abilities that the ninja have created. A ninja only has one Nindo, and that Nindo is designed from the weilders specific Kai. It takes a lot of training for a ninja to find their Nindo, usually 3 years worth. Kenpai, being a rogue samurai, is not expected to find it for three times that long, if manages to find it at all.
The Mission of the Great Shuriken Fog
This is Kenpai's first mission with his Unit after he graduates to a Genin. Legend states that a great shinobi once wielded a Nindo called Shuriken Fog, a very powerful fighting style. With suspicion that his successor is on the rise, Unit 4 is requested to handle this menace. But, a greater threat lurks behind the shadows, controling the battle field with one of the six forbidden Nindos; Blood Bound Puppetry.

This would be a really interesting concept...if I hadn't already encountered it through Naruto. No disrespect, but I feel like a lot of your basis is derived from something someone has already done. If you are committed to pusuing this idea, however, I can only suggest you make it unique, distinct, memorable, and compelling. Otherwise you will forever be marked as a writer of fanfiction. Also, just for the sake of reader-friendliness, not everybody knows what exactly shinobi means, or its relationship to samurai. I lived in Japan and studied folklore and I don't even know. The only times I've ever encountered the word shinobi were in video games, Naruto, and one random movie. Even still, I'm eager to see where you take this and how you make it your own.
