DuchessA Poem by MaraLove story
Soft canvas stood in place
Stroke after stroke the white is erased Radiant beauty at its best Sat the duchess facing west A warm smile, tender grace Inside my body does my heart race Admiring her elegance, studious poise Deep down the hall was heard a faint noise From behind closed doors the Duke had entered Back on the painting my focus was centered A smile once wide and eyes once warm Slid away when tears had started to form Never approving of her gentle care Was the horrible burden she was to bare Forever did I love thee My heart was a lock and she was the key From me she was stolen, the life we could've had The loneliness and desperation made me go mad The painting, one painting was all I had left But even that was subjected to theft The day she died was the day my soul left me Hidden behind curtains she will never be free © 2015 Mara |
