Chapter 9

Javier held tight to his control, he had to. It was a good thing he had connections with the local police otherwise explaining all this would be a headache. A body in Sarah’s apartment, the chard remains of his car and the mess at his father’s house. Mackenzie’s vision finally came true, only it was worse. Not only had Zenis been stabbed to near death, but there was a human female there who was stabbed to death. On top of all this something was wrong with his wife. He wanted to go be by her side when she woke up. Instead he was here while she was home with her mother and grandmother.

“The hospital is operating on Zenis,” Jared informed. “We could have just left him you know, I thought about it.”

“Then we would be no better than he is,” Javier replied. “This just means Zkar isn’t finish toying with us.”

“We still can’t locate him not even using magic,” Jared sighed. “If he wants to screw with Zenis fine, he was the one who screwed his wife and caused him to be a werewolf. But to attack you and that human, she’s not even involved.”

“Yeah that I’m still wondering about, why attack Sarah? She’s with Tyson, he’s not even one of us even if he’s always in my house,” Javier said slightly annoyed. He understood that Maddox wanted his own people to look after his family too, but both Tyson and Orion liked to listen to their princess more than him.

“And you let his brother marry Loraine,” Jared shook his head. “You know some packs don’t let non-wolves in, the number of witches we have is growing and humans now its demons.”

“My wife is half demon,” he said.

“Yeah let’s not go into the genetics of your wife and son,” Jared laughed.

“What do you know about vampires?” Javier asked, since he knew almost nothing of them he figured his 100 year old brother would.

“Don’t tell me we have a vampire problem on top of everything else.”

“Not exactly, but Mackenzie thinks Lynn is in someway related to a vampire.”

“Guess that’s why she’s so pale,” Jared said thoughtfully. “But no she goes out in the sun, vampires can’t do that. Older ones can go out in overcast but she’s a baby. I do get a strange vibe from her and she does have the females terrified of her, Dimia swears she saw fangs on the girl. Some humans just have sharp teeth. Vampires haven’t ever come around here but the ones I’ve come across were pretty vicious and blood lusty. I’m not even sure if they can have offspring.”

“Guess it’s a good thing for her not to be a vampire, she’s pregnant with twins,” Javier said.

“Sebastian avoided females all this time and had to be forced out of the damn woods and this happens? Twins are a blessing, he’s very lucky,” Jared said. “Only other twins in the family are Max’s girls, you thinking of bringing them home yet to be safe?”

“It occurred to me, but I don’t know if Mackenzie is up to it right now, in a week or so maybe. She’s also trying to plan Sebastian and Lynn’s wedding in the next few weeks. I don’t know if I should let her, she’s not well,” he said. His wife’s health came before everything else and these new visions she was having was draining her.

“You say that as if you have a choice in what she does,” Jared laughed. “Maybe she’s pregnant, those things do come in threes don’t they?”

“No trust me she isn’t,” he said trying to hide his bitterness about that. But he couldn’t tell his brother he was permitting his wife to take birth control, that type of thing was shameful. “Guess we’ll have a guard to watch Zenis and we’ll have to keep an eye on Sarah, I’m not sure if she will change or not. And maybe I can get Sierra to help us with our magical issue.”

“Think she’ll be helpful without too much trouble? She does hate us beasts,” Jared said. That was very true and everybody knew it.

“She wants to stay on Mackenzie’s good side right now so maybe, you never know with that old hag,” he replied.

Standing out here on the porch of the house he grew up in was strange. The last time he’d actually come to this house was to fight his father. Javier was the ring leader of the rebellion so he had to be the one to do it. That fight was only the first of way too many, but he had to prove that he was the strongest or he was going to get taken out. Now he stood here with his brother having a calm normal conversation while the house was being looked over, even though he knew his uncle didn’t leave behind any evidence. His uncle Zypher was one of the three people still alive that knew Zkar so he was in the house with a few others. Next the house would have to be cleaned, but Javier wasn’t sure yet if he cared enough to have it done. Maybe Zenis needed a reminder of what happened to him. As for the girl that was killed, she was obviously one of his playthings and had no idea what she was getting into. And since the police had to be involved the whole thing was a lot more complicated than it needed to be.

Until now he mostly ignored the threat to his father’s life because Zenis could handle himself. Because he ignored this Sarah got caught up in it and he felt terrible about that. And he did want revenge for the explosion because his wife and son and her sister could have been hurt. It was amazing luck that those were the two smartest and most powerful witch babies he’d ever seen. Most babies couldn’t do magic and if they could it was nothing like Noah and Mena. He owed it to them to find Zkar and choke the life out of him. More blood would be on his hands and that was something he hated. But he would just have to deal with it if he wanted to protect his family. If only there was some way to figure out where Zkar was or what he was planning. Had he just kept his vendetta fixed on Zenis, Javier would have let him go, but nothing was ever so easy.

“Does Zara see anything interesting happening any time soon?” Javier asked his brother who got a strange expression at the mention of her name.

“Zara is gone, she said she would be out of town a few days and that was the day after the last full moon. She does things like this, I shouldn’t have been involved with her in the first place,” Jared shook his head. It was painfully obvious that he was hurt, but Javier wasn’t going to say anything about that.

“We’ve got a new problem,” Vince said coming up the steps. “That werewolf that attacked Sarah wasn’t after her, his car was in the lot he wanted Lynn.”

“Have you told Sebastian?” Jared asked.

“Hell no, I’m not telling him that,” he said. “He’s also the one that put the explosives in the car. And as luck would have it Leo and Alex have found traces of magic in his car so they’re trying to scout out where this guy came from.”

“Don’t say anything to Sebastian,” Javier told them both. “Nobody can say anything, he has enough to deal with and I need him level headed. If he hears this he’ll go on a rampage and that’s the last thing we need. But for Lynn’s safety I’ll have them stay at my house.”

“Maybe Zkar targeted Sebastian’s female because he has a history and most of us know he’s a bit of a loose cannon. He’s better since she’s been in his life but I agree that there will be no controlling him if he finds this out,” Jared said looking worried.

It was true that Sebastian was the quiet brother that mostly kept to himself, but after the things that happened to him in the past he could be dangerous. Some of the things that went on in Sebastian’s past he had no idea about because he blacked them out and Ana spelled his memory. It would only hurt him to know that he’d at one point in his life been very violent. Nobody talked about it, but Javier would never forget it. Maybe he didn’t have the right to keep this from his brother but for Lynn’s sake especially he had to. She was after all having Sebastian’s babies and it would just be stress that she didn’t need and she would feel guilt because of what happened to her sister.

“I need a damn day off,” Javier shook his head. He could sense a disturbance, it was Stella and Warren.

“Here’s another one to add to the list,” Jared said looking at his phone. “The cops have been called to Stella’s house.”

“Jared deal with this, I’ll go over there,” Javier sighed.

“I’ll come too,” Vince said.

“Keep me posted,” Jared said before disappearing into the house.

“One of these days I’m just going to quit,” Javier said as they headed for Vince’s car. He was serious; he needed to get out of being the Alpha but there was just no easy way to do it.

Stella laughed while spraying the hose at Warren. They were out washing their cars in the driveway. He wrestled the hose away from her and tickled her. This was what her life was supposed to be like, carefree and fun. Maybe she would get Warren to take her dancing tonight. Everything was finally getting back to normal. Until the bimbo showed up she never realized how much she just craved a simple life. Stella just wanted to have fun with her husband and the last few days she’d been doing just that.

“Stelly-bee,” Warren purred in her ear. She laid back on the hood of her cherry red convertible.

“What you want me right here? That would be so hot,” she said wrapping her legs around his waist.

“Not right here the neighbors might complain,” he laughed. “I’ve been thinking Stel and I think we should consider starting a family.”

“What? Why would you be thinking about that?” She asked, the sexy mood was completely over.

“Because I would like for us to start a family,” he said calmly. She didn’t get how he could be calm when her blood pressure was on the rise.

“No,” she said simply.

“You won’t even consider it?”

“No, I like my life the way it is.”

“And what I want doesn’t matter at all, right?”

“Not when you’re asking me to be your baby factory.”

“I should have known you would be like this,” he shook his head and moved away. Warren went to turn off the hose.

It was so strange to Stella that Warren suddenly wanted children. When had she ever expressed an interest in having babies? Maybe it was a little selfish but she was a little selfish. She wanted to party and have fun not be stuck at home with a screaming baby. Hadn’t she had enough of kids babysitting all her life? As far as she could remember Warren never mentioned wanting kids. Either that or she just wasn’t paying attention when he did. This was the type of thing you talked about before you actually got married. Was she just drunk when this conversation happened? In the past this would be where she got bored with her relationship and eventually would leave, she couldn’t leave Warren if she wanted to.

“Are you done being crazy?” She asked him when she found him on the side of the house.

“Stel I don’t know if you noticed with you being so self involved, but I told you on our first date that I wanted to settle down and start a family. There are things I want in my life, for some reason I thought we were on the same page. Now I realize we aren’t even in the same book,” he said and walked away.

“Warren you can’t keep walking away from me. I vaguely remember you saying that but it was years ago, I thought you got over it. Am I not enough for you?” She asked, when he looked at her she was surprised to see the wolf staring back through his eyes.

“I’m walking away so that we don’t fight; you made it clear what’s important to you. So we’re done with this conversation and I won’t bring it up again,” he growled.

“I’m not self involved; I just don’t really want kids. Why should I get fat and sick? Kids are so ungrateful anyway, I’m doing us a favor, we are happy together we have fun. I’m a total party girl, pregnant chicks don’t party,” she said.

“Please Stella if you don’t stop talking I won’t be able to control myself. I don’t want to fight with you or tell you how selfish you are and that you need to grow up,” he said. That just pissed her off and she knew she should just let it go. He was always so controlled and this obviously meant a lot to him if he would lose it, but still she was pissed.

“Maybe you’re being selfish, and going wolfy isn’t going to make me change my mind. You use to be so much fun but now you’re boring,” she said. Yes, she knew she was being childish.

Instead of replying Warren walked pass her and went in the house. Why was this really such a big deal? Had she made a mistake again choosing a husband? After all she’d had to deal with because of his brother and the bimbo; he should have been doing anything to make her happy. So what if they had a connection from the moment they saw each other. And it didn’t matter that with him she had the best sex of her life and it just seemed to keep getting better. This was her life and her body and nobody was going to force her into anything.

But family was everything to Warren and he did have this look in his eyes around children. Maybe she was being selfish. Warren was the type of person that would do anything for the people he loved; he didn’t have a selfish bone in his body. He treated Stella like a queen and gave her any and everything she wanted. And he loved her more than she even loved herself. Ten years he’d been in the army, so of course he wanted a family. Why hadn’t she considered it? If she wasn’t going to give him children there were plenty of she-wolves that would love to. Even if they couldn’t really divorce he could take a mistress. The thought of Warren with another woman infuriated Stella, but she was the one that could possibly drive him to that.

“Auntie Stella,” someone called and she turned to see Amanda.

“Hey, I didn’t know you would be by today,” Stella said. She hugged Warren’s niece, she did love the kids in his family.

“I was hoping you would be home and we could talk about me working at Moon Magic,” Amanda said with a big smile. Her long black hair was braided and had red and white streaks in it; she did like to be different. She was a shade tanner than the last time Stella had seen the 15 year old that loved to come over and borrow clothes.

“Your mom is letting you get a job?” Stella asked, they sat down on the steps.

“She will when I tell her Auntie Stella is going to give me a job,” she said widening her smile.

“I guess we could find something for you to do, if you tell me if Warren has been talking to your mom lately,” Stella said.

“They’re always talking, but like two days ago he seemed stressed about something. Yes I was eavesdropping, but she was asking when you two were going to get started on kids. And they said something about my grandparents bugging him about kids too. He kept saying that you would never give him children so he needed to get over it,” Amanda told her.

“Crap,” Stella sighed. If he was talking to Nora about it then this meant more to him than she realized.

“It’s not true right? You’re going to have kids; Uncle Warren has wanted a family forever. All his exes were like these tame boring woman that would love to be housewives. But he didn’t want them; he wanted an independent free thinking woman who could take care of herself. And you are wild and fun and we all love you so much, I never liked the women he dated,” Amanda said. It just kept getting worse.

“Did anybody ever tell you that you are way too grown?” Stella asked, telling Amanda what was going on wouldn’t end well.

“Yeah I hear it all the time, but I need a job cause mom doesn’t want to buy me new school clothes. She says I have enough clothes, I’m like hello you can never have too many clothes,” Amanda shook her head.

“Clearly she doesn’t remember what high school is like,” Stella said. There was a noise, growling, coming from the back of the house.

“What was that?” Amanda asked getting up and starting around the side of the house. Stella had to move quickly to get in front of her.

“Amanda, maybe you should wait in the house,” Stella said. The sound was definitely a fight and when they got to the back she saw it.

“Oh my God,” Amanda gasped. They were looking at Warren fighting his brother and both of them were half changed. This day had just gone from bad to worse.

I woke up to find that it was dark outside and I was home in my bed. Even though I’d clearly been asleep for hours I still felt weak. Then again I wasn’t asleep was I? Unless it was a dream I traveled into the demon realm that my father came from and was in his castle. And now I knew that 3 of my uncles were alive. If only I knew if it was the present of the future, I was pretty sure it couldn’t be the past. My husband was leaning against the bed post at the foot of the bed; he opened his eyes when I sat up.

“How long have I been out?” I asked crawling over to lay my head in his lap.

“About 10 hours or so,” he said smoothing back my hair.

“What did I miss? Is Sarah ok?” I asked, his sullen expression told me that something else happened.

“She’s alive, but we don’t know if she’ll change and even so she’s unconscious anyway. Zenis is alive but the young lady he was entertaining is not. Oh and to make my day truly wonderful I had to go break up a fight between Warren and his brother. On the bright side we have him contained, though Warren beat him to near death. Honestly I never knew he had that in him,” he told me.

“So much in one day, did you find out who destroyed your car?”

            “Same guy that attacked Sarah.”
“And what aren’t you telling me?” I knew my husband well enough to know that he was hiding something.

“If I tell you Kenzie you have to swear not to breathe a word, not even to Auri. This has to be between us because it’s too dangerous for anyone to know,” he said. This was the most serious I’d ever seen him so I was worried.

“Ok, then we won’t use words,” I said sitting up.

“Are you sure you’re up for this so soon? We haven’t even talked about what happened to you,” he said looking very uncertain.

“This first before someone comes in,” I said. I held my palms up and he did the same, we held them facing each other almost but not quite touching.

“The werewolf that attacked Sarah was really after Lynn.

            Why would he want Lynn?”

“My guess is Sebastian, if Zkar somehow found out about his issues he could use the rage against us. Little does he know that since Lynn is pregnant it would be worse than ever before. This is why he absolutely can’t find out. He deserves to live a somewhat peaceful existence.”

“I agree, so it must be true that someone is working with Zkar, someone in the family. How else would he know to push Sebastian?”

“Yeah I was trying not to think about that, maybe Zenis was right about not trusting anyone.”

“No, you’ll always have me no matter what.”

“I know, but I need for you to convince Lynn to stay here. If you make her want to stay to be safe then Sebastian won’t object, we have to keep Sarah anyway.”

“You know I can be persuasive, but you realize some thing isn’t adding up about all this. Even if Sebastian is enraged he’s a different person now and he doesn’t know what happened. There has to be more to the reason Lynn was a target.”

“Yes I know, I’m working on it.”

“Maybe that was a bad idea,” I said when I pulled away. Now I felt even worse. Communicating telepathically was usually a lot less draining.

“Come here Baby,” he pulled me into his arms. It felt good to be there and I was starting to feel a little stronger, then the door opened.

“Good Little Sister you’re awake,” Poppy said clicking on the light. Poppy Lewis happened to be my adopted older sister.

The exact day that my mom found out I had been kidnapped she met Poppy in a diner. Poppy happened to be an untrained, poor and dirty 12 year old witch. Her witch mother had died years before and she was living with her broken father and three older brothers on a run down farm. My mom was feeling empty because she couldn’t bring me home so she decided to train Poppy and be like a big sister to her. About 6 months or so later Poppy’s dad approached my parents about becoming Poppy’s guardians because he was sick and dying and thought she would be better off with them instead of her bothers. Of course they agreed and so I technically have a big sister, she’s only like 6 years older than me. For the last year or so Poppy has been away trying to find out anything thing she can about her mother.

“Where is Noah?” I asked anyone that would answer me.

“Noah and Mena are at the farm with Lilly,” Javier told me.

“So were you trying to get attention, again?” Poppy jokingly asked me.

            “That’s your job,” I replied.

“Says the girl that got drunk and let someone talk her into getting his name tattooed in big letters on the back of her neck,” she said.

“Hush, weren’t you the one that took me out to the club when I was 16?” I asked and we both laughed.

“Not to interrupt your trip down memory lane, but Kenzie you haven’t even said what happened to you today,” Javier said. Of course he wouldn’t want to know what Poppy and I were doing back then.

“Well I had a vision like before only it wasn’t a vision because I talked to someone,” I said.

“Who?” My mother asked from the doorway, she came in followed by Sierra, my father and Aunt Vanessa.

“Arian,” I said and my father stared at me. “He’s alive and he said that so is Nathan and Stefan.” At that Aunt Vanessa looked like she might faint, she is Uncle Stefan’s mate.

“You spoke with my brother? It had to be a trick, I saw him be killed,” my father said. That thought occurred to me but I knew that was my uncle.

“From what he told me your father faked his death because he didn’t want a gay son. And he hid him in this secluded dungeon so nobody would ever know about him. He had one of the bands on,” I told them.

“How can she be opening portals? Even I can’t do that,” Aunt Vanessa said.

“She’s not opening portals, while she was having conversations with Arian she was right in front of me,” my mother said. A look passed between her and Sierra.

“A form of astro projection,” Sierra said.

“Then why would she be going to random demony places she’s never been?” Poppy asked, I was wondering that myself.

“There are greater powers at work here and in time this will all make sense, but Mackenzie you have to learn how to control this gift,” Sierra said.

“Did you see Stefan?” Aunt Vanessa asked with a hint of desperation in her voice, it had been around 7 years since she last saw him.

“No, Arian is in a cell all by himself,” I said.

“Tell me everything that happened,” my father said.

While I told them where I was and what happened, I laid against Javier. I was still feeling weak but he was giving me the strength to keep going. He sat listening just being supportive. Sometimes I was pretty sure my husband is bipolar. One day he’s sweet the next day he’s crazy overprotective and pisses me off. Maybe our fights really got through to him. I felt so exhausted I really wanted to sleep but I owed it to my father to tell him about his brothers. Garrett, Arian, Victor, Reynard, my father, Nathan, Bruce and Stefan, the eight sons of King Goron and now when everybody thought there was only one left we find out 3 others still live. This could mean that my father doesn’t have to be king; he can have a normal life with my mother. Everything could completely change, but I don’t know if the demons could handle a gay king. Especially if this was what happened to the rightful king, demon politics like wolf politics made no sense to me. It was good sometimes to be a witch and not have to fully deal with it.
