The Seer (Chapter 8)A Chapter by Britiney Harper...continued..
Chapter 8 Sebastian wasn’t sure who was most uncomfortable at this dinner, but it was very awkward. Somehow “What is it you do Sebastian?” Richard asked, the question was welcome in the very uncomfortable silence. “Currently I’m a bartender but I’m taking a job running a construction company for my sister-in law’s father,” he said. That actually seemed to impress stony faced Richard. “And have you figured out where you will live?” Richard asked. “Lynn and I are going to start looking for a house soon,” he said. Hadn’t Rose just asked these same questions? “And when should we be expecting to see some grandchildren?” Richard predictably asked. “Not for a very long time,” “Why not? You should be thinking about the future, you won’t be young forever; you need to start having children. What do you plan on doing if you aren’t going to have children?” He asked. “I’m going to nursing school, I’m going to have a career,” she told him. “Why would you do that? You have a man to take care of you; a wife’s job is to take care of the home, “he said looking annoyed. “Its fine I’m in no real rush to be a father, we’ll wait till Truthfully Sebastian had been dreaming of having a family ever since he met Emily and then he gave up on that dream when he came home. It never really occurred to him that a human might not be able to give birth to his children. With his father’s history he should have known that but back then he was in denial about not being human. And there was the fact that his mother was human. But what Dimia had said was true, “Richard, it’s their life they can have children when they want to,” Rose said. She’d barely said a word through dinner. “I’m just saying he’s not getting any younger, it’s selfish of her,” he said shaking his head. “We have time it’s not a big deal, school is important,” Sebastian said. Little did the “Women don’t need to go to school they need to be starting families. Evalinda is a pretty girl there’s no reason she should work,” Richard said. It was like this man was from a different planet, no matter what the conversation just kept coming back to the same thing. He didn’t want his daughter to work. “So how did you meet my daughter?” Richard asked when they were alone because the females went to the bathroom. “We were both doing laundry and start talking, nothing too exciting,” Sebastian said. He left out the part about “To be honest I never thought she would end up married, not with her smart mouth and unwillingness to submit to anyone. But I guess she hasn’t scared you away yet,” Richard said. “My advice to you is to cut out this giving her choices crap; you should demand and take what you want. A man has to show that he is the boss. And I’m thinking you should get her more involved in church, save her tainted soul.” “I’ll take your suggestions into consideration,” he said. Arguing wasn’t going to get anywhere with this man, so he didn’t bother. Zenis thought of his children as his property and apparently so did Richard. If Sebastian ever had children he was never going to treat them like this. Nobody deserved this. A few days later even though I wasn’t exactly at full operating capacity I had to go to the police station. The DNA results were in so I had to go watch Rose’s heart break. It was very bad timing because I just wanted to be left alone to figure out my current situation. Besides I already broke Isadora’s heart and she’s actually blood related. I wasn’t going alone, Auri decided to pretend to be a lawyer for the day and At the police station with my entourage we were back inside a depressing grey room, this time my husband knew what was going on. Though he was not happy he won’t attempt to interfere. Rose, Mary and Mercedes were already there waiting. They looked up as we entered, poor Rose with that hopeful look. Then they saw “Evalinda what are you doing here?” Rose asked and “I completely forgot that was your real name,” I said. “I try to forget all the time,” “The test will prove the truth,” Mercedes said confidently. “After this is over I would appreciate it if you left my client alone,” Auri said sounding lawyerish. “You have twins?” Mary asked me while staring at Noah and Mena. “Wait you two look like twins too.” She was looking and me and Auri. “No twins here, Noah is mine and Mena is my sister and this is my sister-in law,” I explained. The three of them stared at us, as people often did when they realized none of us were twins. “How can that baby be your sister? She looks like you did as a baby,” Rose said looking like she might cry. “Because we share the same mother and father, that’s why we look alike,” I said. “I have the results,” Delgado the female officer from before said. Delgado handed out two envelopes to both me and Rose. I’m pretty sure before Rose read a word on the page she realized the truth. I never resembled her other children with my tanned skin and curly chocolate hair. No it took someone that I’m not related to at all for me to have somebody to look like. Honestly I don’t get why Richard never told her the truth, even after Mercedes found me. What was wrong with this man? He loved his wife enough to spare her the pain of finding out their baby died but turns around and refuses to tell her the truth after 22years. That made no sense at all. And here on the test it said how we were absolutely not related in any way. I didn’t feel victory at the truth I just felt bad for Rose, who’d already been through enough. “They must have tampered with the test, it was that husband,” Mercedes accused. “No one did anything to the test stupid, DNA doesn’t lie,” “Oh please like you know anything, all you’re good for is being some rich man’s toy. I know that’s why you’re with that man,” Mercedes replied bitterly. “What rich man?” Rose asked. “You said you were marrying that Sebastian.” “ “She’s not getting married, he’s just using her and he’ll kill her like his pass fiancés,” Mercedes said. This led me to believe that she was having her P.I. investigate not just me but the whole family and Javier wasn’t going to like this. “That’s not true, my brother had a hard life but he never killed anyone,” Auri said defensively. “Your disgusting murdering brother needs to keep away from my sister. He is a pedophile, she was only 17 when he forced himself on her,” Mercedes said. “What? Oh God, Lynn what’s going on?” Mary asked looking concerned. “Bastian didn’t force himself on me and he’s no pedophile, so what if we had sex. We love each other and are getting married, I’d still marry him if he didn’t have any money at all,” “So this is true that he is wealthy?” Rose asked and “No, he would never hurt me. I was the one who went after him anyway he’s no predator,” she said. “Let’s go,” I said sensing that trouble was coming. “I’m sorry Mrs. She grabbed my wrist as I feared I got a vision. It was of Rose with a man, the man I kept seeing around “Oh good Goddess,” I whispered. “We really need to go.” “Are you alright?” Rose asked looking concerned. “Fine,” I replied inching closer to the door. It was a good thing Auri had taken Noah, I was feeling all shaky. “Would you like to sit for a minute Mrs. Alonso?” Delgado asked, but I shook my head, I needed to get away from here. One vision meant more would follow. “We have some place else to be,” Auri said walking pass me to open the door. “You can’t leave, you have to tell the truth,” Mercedes said. “Your doctor husband did something to the test. Why doesn’t he want you to be with your family?” “Mercedes I am with my family, stop bothering me. So what you were mean to your little sister, it’s not your fault that something happened to her,” I grumbled. I walked out the door after Auri and Javier was in his office getting ready to go home when someone came in. It was one of the cops that had dragged his wife to see those humans. Since Mackenzie was at the police station earlier this didn’t surprise him. She’d called to say they needed to talk when he got home, and it didn’t sound good. The cop leaned in the doorway like someone invited him in, it annoyed Javier. But for the moment he would suppress his Alpha tendencies so that the cop could think he was in control. Then maybe Javier would restrain himself from strangling this man. “Dr. Alonso, I’m Officer Kent, I need to speak with you about an investigation involving your wife,” the man said. “Why are you still investigating my wife? She isn’t that woman’s daughter,” Javier said coolly. “We’re looking into an accusation that maybe you ensured that those test results would come out in your favor,” he said. “I hope you weren’t expecting a confession, I didn’t need to do anything. The truth is the truth no matter what that crazy Mercedes says,” Javier replied. “Why is it that you don’t want your wife near her family?” “She is around her family,” he said. “If there’s nothing else you can leave.” “How is your marriage Dr. Alonso?” “What the hell is that supposed to mean? My marriage is none of your damn business,” Javier growled. This man was pissing him off and the wolf didn’t like it. “Well you literally dragged your wife from the police station and argued with her in the parking lot. Some concern has been expressed into if you are harming your wife,” “What I do with my wife is none of your business, so get the hell out of my office,” he said. The wolf was desperate to rip this man apart and usually Javier was good at keeping control. But nobody messed with his family, especially his wife. “And you’re ok with men being in your house in the middle of the day?” “You don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said. “Don’t I? Your wife is entertaining men while you work and that doesn’t get you angry? That don’t seem right to me,” “Things that go on in my house are none of your business,” Javier said. If it killed him he would stay calm and not change. Killing a cop was a crime and though he could make it go away there was always the chance. And he just wasn’t like that or he wasn’t before, now he wasn’t sure. “Does that mean you permit men to do what they want with your wife?” “You know I could get mad, but why bother? The truth is that you’ve been wasting time investigating my wife and it pisses you off so you want something to be wrong. If you must know my marriage is fine,” he paused smiling. “But since you are harassing my family I might talk to a few friends of mine to ensure that you won’t be doing it again.” Sometimes being the Alpha had its perks. “Are you threatening me Dr. Alonso?” “Nope, I’m just saying your job might not exist soon,” he shrugged. “Now get out of my office and learn how to mind your own business.” “I will get to the truth,” Javier was unfazed by the nosey human, no need to harm somebody unnecessarily. But the man would be punished; he would learn not to mess with Javier. In the back of his mind it occurred to him that this was something his father would do, abuse power. At least he wasn’t going to kill the man like Zenis would. Sometimes it was a necessary thing and there were a lot of people eager to do whatever he asked. Since fate was obviously getting back at him today, his father was waiting for him in the parking lot. That was very suspicious and made him wonder if Zenis did something to his car. “What do you want?” Javier asked his father. “Just checking up on my son,” Zenis said. “Sorry I’m still alive, I’m surprised you are though,” he said. “Barely, since you know my bother is trying to kill me. Oh and in case you want to know he has people working for him. Everywhere I go they are following me, I need you to send over guards,” Zenis said. He actually almost sounded scared. “Why would I protect you? Need I remind you of all the crimes you committed against your own family? Handle it yourself, you always did insist you didn’t need anybody else,” Javier said. “I could before you took everything away from me, now I have no one’s loyalty. Half the people around here want me dead, and would probably think it would score points with you if they killed me. The things I did are in the past,” Zenis said dismissively. “Even if I did care to help you, which I really don’t, nobody would guard you. What did you do to piss him off enough to want to kill you anyway?” His curiosity was getting the better of him; he wanted to know what would make a brother murderous. “Wasn’t my fault he got all worked up and tried to kill his wife and kids. I didn’t force his wife to come to me for comfort. Eventually she got a little clingy and I was bored with her. Long story short she was depressed and killed his kids and then herself, he blames me for it. He should have controlled himself better,” Zenis shrugged. “You might want to watch your back, you deserve whatever you get. I can’t help; you have to pay for the things you’ve done. You had your brothers turned against their will and you drove his wife to murder and suicide. At some point you have to take responsibility for your actions,” he said. “And what do you deserve? You aren’t so innocent,” Zenis paused. “Didn’t I warn you about that wife of yours? What’s she doing right now? Is she at home with your loyal subjects? Don’t seem smart to me to leave that hot little piece of a*s alone with men all day everyday. But I guess that’s why they are so loyal to you. That baby doesn’t even look like you; at least I know all my kids are mine. I warned you about her and your brothers but you’ll never learn, that’s why you shouldn’t leave. Unlike me you aren’t willing to do anything and everything it takes to survive as long as I have. So what I did my brother’s wife, if he’d been doing what he was supposed to she wouldn’t have come to me. It’s always women. Remember that boy; women are the cause of all fight, wars and every issue. Think about why you took me on, after all that time you did it for her. All you had to do was plead your case to me; I could have let you have her.” “I did what I had to do to survive, and it would do you a world of good to stop thinking about my wife. Otherwise Zkar won’t be your problem,” Javier said calmly. He got in his car and drove off before his father could say another word. What was it with people attacking Mackenzie today? She was the only person he knew he could count on all of the time. And maybe she was what fueled him to take down his father, but it was a long time coming. So what if his wife was home all day with men, they were there because he asked them to be. Mackenzie had never even kissed another man that he knew for sure. Why was it that doubt was starting to sink in? She’d never given him any reason not to trust her. Then again she had been complaining about being unhappy with him and she was on birth control now. Why had she been so insistent on that? No, Mackenzie would never betray him, leave him maybe but never cheat. When he pulled into his driveway he noticed that no one was around. There were usually wolves all around the grounds and now there were none. What was going on? They weren’t supposed to leave unless he said so. If that wasn’t suspicious enough Phineas’ car was gone and it was very quiet. Cautiously he went in the house trying to be prepared for anything. Somebody was cooking; he could smell it from the porch. He found his wife in the kitchen in a slinky black lace dress, no one else was in the house at all. Mackenzie turned and smiled at him when she realized he was there. “Do you like?” She asked twirling around to give him a better look. The dress was tight and just barely covered her behind and showed way too much cleavage. “You look amazing,” he said. “Why are you here alone?” “Because we need alone time, its unhealthy to have so many people around all of the time,” she said. “How did you get them to leave? Everybody is under very strict orders not to leave unless I say so,” he said watching her closely. “Don’t be mad, I was a little creative with that and had to cook a lot of yummy steaks. Please let’s just enjoy our time together; I don’t want you to be angry with anyone because I assured them you wanted this. And before you ask I was never here alone, Tyson left before you came,” she explained. “He saw you dressed like that?” He asked unable to hide his annoyance, she was barely wearing anything. “Oh well kind of but Tyson and I are definitely not into each other if that’s what you think. He helped me pick out what I wanted to wear for you husband,” she said. “I don’t like you being alone with a man dressed like that,” he told her. “Sweetie, you are the only man for me and you’re cute when you’re jealous,” she said kissing him. “I’m not his type anyway; he’s dating “If you say so,” he said. No reason to fight when she’d gone to all this trouble for them to be alone. “So why do I deserve this anyway?” “Because I love you and we do need to talk about a few unpleasant things, which will sound a little less bad over dinner with your sexy wife,” she said. “My wife is very sexy,” he said. She smiled and went to take something out of the oven; he smiled when she bent over. Javier set the table for dinner while Mackenzie finished in the kitchen. For some reason he was a little edgy. He didn’t like that she was able to sweet talk the guards into leaving, but he didn’t want to upset her by making a big deal about it. And he really didn’t like that Tyson saw Mackenzie dressed like this and was alone with her. It took a few minutes to force himself to put thoughts of killing Tyson out of his head. Instead he tried to focus on watching his wife, and how her dress was giving him peeks every time she moved. She was always a great distraction, thinking of her was better than letting the paranoia in. He never had any reason not to trust her, but why did two different people have to be suspicious of her that day? It made no sense and there was no way he was going to trust the word of that meddling cop or his father over his wife. Still there were some things he wondered about. “So where are Noah and Mena?” He asked when they were having dinner. “Oh they are spending the night with Lynn and Sebastian,” she said. “Why the hell would you let them go over there with no guards?” “Because Sebastian can take care of them and Tyson is down the hall from them at Sarah’s apartment. Stop worrying nothing is going to happen, I would know,” she said. “Kenzie you are really testing my patience today,” he told her and she smiled. “You worry way too much, and you know Sebastian would protect Noah with his life. We have other things to discuss anyway,” she said. “Should I be worried?” He asked, for the moment he would let his anger go. That seemed to be all he was ever doing anymore. “Well I’m thinking that Mercedes has had her P.I. investigate our family. She said Sebastian killed his girlfriends or whatever and I’m certain “Speaking of this investigation, how could this guy find you anyway? Sebastian is easy, but you only just got a birth certificate with your real name on it what 5 or 6 years ago. There’s no way they would be looking for Mackenzie Cohen, something isn’t right. I’m going to look into who this guy is,” he said. “How are you feeling? Are the visions bad still?” “Eh it’s calmed down since the Rose thing, did I mention gross?” “That’s gross to you? Not that your parents have loud sex? I don’t ever need to hear that again, you wonder why I really don’t make you go to the farm anymore, that’s why. How do you sleep in that house?” One too many times he’d heard things and never wanted to again. It was just weird that his wife’s parents were probably more sexual then they were. “Ok they are pretty bad but um we’ve done that out at the farm, it’s so embarrassing. I’m so happy my parents are having another baby; I know my dad wants a boy but it’s a girl. Princess Mariah Sierra Cohen, which means mama and grandma are going to make up. Good cause I’m going to have to go see Sierra and it will be less weird,” she said. “Is it wise to go see Sierra again so soon?” “Oh she knows I have to come after that vision, I would like to ask her if she knows which of my uncles is still alive though.” “One of those cops showed up today to inquire about why my wife is home with men all day and if I abuse you. He’s lucky I still have some self control,” Javier said. “Really? Doesn’t he have anything better to do? Should I tell you what I do home all day with men? I feed them that’s what, I swear I have to buy groceries every other day,” she shook her head. “Guess that’s why so many people volunteer for guard duty,” he said and she glared at him. “What else is on your mind, besides the P.I. that needs to be killed?” “Well I was thinking that since I really don’t really like being a house wife that I could I don’t know do something with my life,” she said. “Should I be worried? I want you to be happy,” he said. Even though he did like coming home to his wife home and a home cooked meal every night. “I want to open a store, like a clothes store since I love clothes,” she said excitedly. “Yeah my credit cards know that you like clothes,” he sighed. “Whatever you want to do I’m behind you; just know that you still have to keep the guards.” “You don’t even have to pay for it, and I found a place,” she smiled. “So you’re going into the retail business and I’m going to be unemployed,” he said and she stopped smiling. “What are you going to do if you aren’t a doctor?” She asked the question he’d been asking himself. “Stay at home dad?” “No, you didn’t work this hard to do nothing. First you should rest and clear your mind and then we’ll go from there,” she said. “Maybe we can get some alone time and maybe vacation time before I have to be a responsible adult again,” he suggested. “Mama likes that idea,” she replied getting up to sit on his lap. In that dress working was the last thing on his mind. For the first time in his life Javier had no set plans and he didn’t know what his next step would be. Normally that would drive him crazy, for some reason it didn’t this time. He got everything he wanted all the time because he was willing to work for it. In school he took extra classes and summer classes so that he could become a doctor. When he realized he couldn’t live without Mackenzie he tracked her down and made her his wife. The turning point was when others decided for him that he would be Alpha. Just like with everything else he worked hard at that to win, because he had to. Since he didn’t choose to be Alpha it threw off his life plans, all he wanted was a family of his own. He had that but it wasn’t the way he wanted it. Something had to change, but first he was going to work on his marriage and being a father. Auri had been dozing off in Vince’s bed when she sensed he was close. Since Mackenzie wanted to be alone with Javier she decided to come here. This was apparently a bad idea because Vince was late, and that probably meant he was with a woman. Why had she really thought making up with him would be a good idea? She’d even put on new sexy lingerie for him and for what? The only reason she didn’t leave was to prove herself right when he came home either with a woman or smelling like one. When he entered his bedroom alone he smiled at her. “What did I do to deserve this?” He asked looking around the candle lit room. “Nothing but I was bored,” she shrugged. “You look amazing,” he said as he climbed on the bed. At least he didn’t smell like he’d been with a woman. “Really? I’ve worn much less for you,” she said loving the look on his face. He was either really horny or she was just that good looking, she suspected it was a little of both. “I like this on you,” he whispered against her lips. She had on a very short pink and brown, silk and lace gown. One reason she had to come back was because she was in desperate need of some male attention and sex. Since she could sense what Vince was feeling she knew he needed her. Which she definitely preferred compared to the alternative. He was kissing her like he missed her and she really liked that. But he stopped and stared at her while her dress was half way off. “Why are you here Aurielle?” He asked to her surprise, since when did he question sex? “What does it look like? This is me trying to forgive you. Why are you stalling?” She asked rather annoyed at him. “Because as much as I want you and as amazing as you look I need to know that you aren’t going to leave again. If I have to I’ll go be celibate I’m sure Jared and Sebastian can give me pointers on how to stay sane,” he said. That wasn’t what she was expecting; maybe she gave him too little credit. “Why were you so late coming home?” She asked because she couldn’t help it. “Well ever since you left I’ve been going to the gym after work to work off steam, so I don’t have to run every night. And before you ask I showered and changed at the gym, alone,” he said sitting up. “So you know I’m not cheating on you, I’m committed to the relationship we don’t really have. Do you know how much easier my life would be if I didn’t love you? At least I’m willing to try to make it work all you do is play games.” “Vince,” she said while he paced. “I want to stay with you I really came to work things out and I could feel how you needed me. Everything just came out of nowhere; I never expected that you would love me. But now I’m here, I even brought all my stuff and took over your closet.” “There’s no more leaving Aurielle, if you’re in this then you’re in it, if not then just leave,” he said sounding tired. Once again it was her fault. “Vincent you’re stuck with me,” she told him. Without another word he was on top of her on the bed. After making up a few times Auri laid in bed waiting for Vince. He was heating up dinner; she’d been cooking her anxiety away before he came home. For some reason it felt amazing to be back here, like it was home. Under normal circumstances this would freak her out and send her running far away. Now she just felt at peace. Vince’s cell phone start ringing and first she ignored it, but after going to voicemail it rang again. So she held out her palm and summoned it to her from his gym bag. It stopped before it reached her, and then it started up again. She didn’t recognize the number but answered because whoever it was happed to be very persistent. “Vincy baby I’m on my way over,” a woman said. Auri hung up without saying anything. It was true she couldn’t trust him. What was the point of spewing all those lies if he had one of his lovers coming over? And he had sworn to her that she was the only one to ever be in his house and bed. Why did that even matter? She needed to get up and leave and never look back. The phone start ringing again and she just stared at it; he lied straight to her face. How stupid was she to believe that Vince the player would really be faithful? On shaky legs so stood, later she would get Javier to get her stuff. Before she could go, not that she was really sure that she could, he walked in whistling. He was smiling carrying a tray filled with food. “Baby what’s wrong?” He asked after setting the tray on the nightstand. Because resisting was too hard when stabbed through the heart, she didn’t fight him pulling her close. “Did something happen? Are you ok?” “I have to go,” she whispered. The phone rang again from where she dropped it on the bed. “Oh s**t you answered my phone,” he sighed. “That’s all you have to say? You lied to me; you looked me in the eyes and lied. I’m so stupid,” she said channeling her anger. Why be sad and broken hearted when you could be angry? “Maybe I should let you go since all you’re going to do is jump to conclusions every time the phone rings or if I work late. I never gave you a reason not to trust me Aurielle, I never lied to you,” he growled. “On the phone that’s the jeweler that helped me find a ring for you, well actually I had it custom made. Ask me things I have no reason to lie.” At that he let her go and was pacing, any minute he could change. “What am I supposed to think? You don’t just go from constant bed-hopping to getting married over night,” she said. Even though she knew she was wrong and felt bad, she couldn’t admit it. “Ok and I’m supposed to trust you? The difference between us is that I want to be with you and I’m willing to give myself completely, but you are the one looking for an out. So just go because it’s just not worth all this to be with you, I love you but I refuse to live like this. You pick fights for fun and you don’t want to trust me, so I’m done. Aurielle you are free to do whatever the hell you want to because I can honestly say I deserve better than this,” he said. His eyes were changing colors; he was definitely going to change, he also looked really hurt. “I’m sorry,” she whispered slowly getting closer. It was risky but she lightly rubbed his arms while burying her face against his chest. The possibility that he could rip her apart didn’t actually bother her because she kind of deserved it. “Vince, please you know this is hard for me, but I want to be yours.” “Are you sure?” “Yes, I’m yours.” She was doing something she probably would regret but life was about taking chances and she didn’t want to lose him. “This ring better be amazing.” “I wouldn’t propose to you if it wasn’t,” he assured her. So this was it she was getting engaged to Vince and there was no going back. It was hard not to wonder what could have been had Sebastian found a woman that would accept him, what if Emily had? He loved her and he would have had a perfect housewife that gave him perfect children. She carefully got out of bed so that she didn’t wake the babies or Sebastian. In the bathroom she came to another realization, she hadn’t been taking her birth control. The last time she remembered taking them was at least a month ago. Since the first time she’d almost had sex with Sebastian he informed her that he didn’t use condoms. So her reaction was to refuse him, and he told her he respected her decision and wouldn’t pressure her. It was a complete shock that he still wanted to spend time with her and really didn’t bring it up even though he obviously wanted more. Not being able to have sex with him made her mad so she bought condoms and told him to wear one. Again he refused and told her it was against his beliefs. Eventually she gave in because she was on birth control but she did suggest Sebastian get tested just in case. Now it made sense why he thought that was funny, he did it to please her though. How long did it even take for birth control to no longer have an effect? She was planning on not taking it anymore anyway, so maybe it was fate. This was for the best and for Sebastian, it was the right thing. Women worked and had families all of the time so having a child wouldn’t ruin her plans. And she could almost admit that she wanted this too, babysitting changed her view on everything. Sebastian was afraid something would happen so he wasn’t going to willingly go along and he would never want to abort their child once she was pregnant. But she hated to be sneaky and trick him into having a baby. Wasn’t this what skanks did to trap a man? Technically she already had him so she wouldn’t be trapping him; it was just the lying she hated. Hadn’t she been mad at him from keeping secrets and lying? Sometimes you just had to make the hard decisions for somebody else in the name of love. “What’s wrong?” Sebastian asked when he came in and wrapped his arms around her waist. “Why would you think something is wrong?” She asked, she’d been so distracted by her thoughts that she never heard him come in. “Because I can feel you and I know something is bothering you,” he said. “I was just thinking, don’t worry,” she said dismissively. “What were you thinking about? Don’t lie to me Lynn,” he said. “Fine, you looked so happy with the kids that I was thinking of how you should have a family and be married with Emily,” she said. Drawing his attention to another issue was better than admitting that she was plotting behind his back. “You realize with her being human there’s a chance we never could have had children. It wasn’t meant to be with Emily or Paula or even Stacy, you are my destiny. And don’t worry about us having children, it’s the last thing on my mind,” he said. She could tell he was lying so she turned to look him in the eyes, they told the truth so she decided to. “Bastian, I just realized I haven’t been taking my birth control. It wasn’t on purpose; a lot has been going on lately,” she said and he stared at her. “And the truth is that I was going to stop taking it anyway because I love you and I know you want children. We promised to be honest with each other and I know you’re trying to protect me but maybe having children isn’t a bad idea.” “How long have you been off your pills?” He asked. “I don’t know a month or 6 weeks or so I really have no idea,” she admitted. “ “Are you seriously mad at me for an accident? I give up the things I wanted for my life to be with you and give you what you want and this is how you act?” She was pissed now; she was just trying to make him happy. “Don’t marry me and don’t try to get yourself pregnant, its simple I never asked you to do anything. I told you that we don’t have to get married right away. Children aren’t that important to me, you are what’s important,” he said. He was pacing and she could sense that he was ready to jump out of his skin. “Sebastian I will leave you right now for good if you don’t tell me the truth,” she said standing her ground. When he stared at her she could see the wolf in his eyes. “The truth? More than anything else I want a family, yes that is true but I am not willing to put you at risk. I thought about it and we could adopt,” he said. “ “Oh Bastian stop worrying so much, your human mother had you so why worry too much that something will happen to me? I’m not going to die,” she told him. “Well ok I will die one day, but not because of anything you do.” “There are many children all over the world that need to be adopted,” he replied. “What if I’m already pregnant?” She asked, he surprised her when he dropped to his knees in front of her and laid his face against her stomach. “It’s too late,” he whispered kissing her belly button. “You got your wish.” “How can you know that? It couldn’t have been more than two months since I took the pills,” she said but his expression was certain. Maybe she really didn’t think this through; she’d be pregnant getting married. “I thought this was what you wanted?” He asked still on his knees watching her. “Its kind of trashy to be getting married pregnant,” she said. There were tears in her eyes, she could feel them but his eyes were teary too. “We can get married tomorrow,” he said getting up from the floor. “I’m not going to let anything happen to you.” “I know,” she said before he kissed her. Eighteen and barely out of high school and “So you know how Erora’s sister designs clothes right? Well she has some connections to help me with my store,” I told my husband. “You’ve put a lot of thought into this haven’t you?” He asked and I nodded, I really had been thinking about it for awhile. “And “I can give you the money to start,” he predictably suggested. “Honey I’m good for cash, my daddy got money too,” I replied. Javier being an alpha male he always felt the need to take care of absolutely everything for me. “Sarah is the one Tyson sneaks off to see?” He asked changing the subject, but we both knew we’d talk about money later. “Yeah they are too cute together, well in my visions they are,” I paused. “We made it through breakfast without me having any visions, I almost feel human.” “Well you aren’t exactly un-human, but maybe your visions are giving you a break,” Javier said. “Maybe,” I said. If only I could go a whole day without having a vision. After washing the dishes left from breakfast we both went up to take a shower. It was so blissful to spend alone time with my husband. Soon the guards would be back and they would of course be under strict instructions to never let me bribe and sweet talk them away again. He means well but Javier drives me crazy sometimes, but since we have this rare alone time I won’t argue. Once we were nice and clean we got dressed and drove over to Sebastian’s apartment. The guards were there before we left. “What are you doing here?” Tyson asked when he answered the door at Sarah’s apartment. “I need to talk to Sarah about you know what,” I told him and he nodded. “He knew about this before me?” Javier asked as we stepped inside. “Only because I’ve been planning for awhile and didn’t want to tell you until I was sure I wanted to do this,” I said. “Trust me I’d love to not have to listen to the females chatter,” Tyson said shaking his head. “Oh hi,” Sarah said when she came from in the kitchen. Of course she was surprised to see us, me especially. “Hi Sarah, I don’t believe you’ve met my husband Javier,” I said. “It’s nice to meet you,” Javier said politely. “You too,” she said still looking uneasy. “Javier, can we talk?” Tyson said drawing my husband away so I could speak to Sarah alone. “I’m sure me showing up here is beyond random considering the thing with your family, but this is about you,” I said. “Well anyway this is business; I’m opening a store because I love clothes. It is something a bored housewife with spare cash might do, but I need more in my life than just my family. My sister-in-law has connections with some designers, but I was thinking that since you make jewelry that maybe I could sell it in my store. We can work out the costs and all that if you’re on board.” “This is kind of random,” Sarah said. “But of course it’s an amazing opportunity considering I wouldn’t be selling much otherwise.” “Good, Tyson thought you would be perfect for this,” I told her. I never was one to resist an opportunity to play matchmaker. “Have you been friends with him long?” She asked sounding nervous. “Him and my father go way back, so we’ve been pretty close,” I said. “Did you date him?” “No, I’ve never dated I just kind of married Javi and that was it,” I explained. “Tyson is a great guy, since I’ve known him he hasn’t dated, but I know you he likes you a lot. We like to grill him as much as possible; he talks about you a lot.” “He spends a lot of time with you and your sisters; I don’t really know many straight guys that hang out with women they aren’t sleeping with,” she said. “All of my husband’s sisters are officially spoken for, stop worrying. You just to be patient with him trust me,” I said and she nodded. I wasn’t going to be the one to explain why Tyson hadn’t dated in like a 100 years that was his secret to tell. Besides that would mean admitting he wasn’t completely human, he’s only half demon. “Mercedes said some things about your husband and I know I’m not really your sister and it’s not my business, but…” She trailed off obviously not knowing how to proceed. “My husband has a temper that’s true but he would never hurt me, he just worries a lot. Trust me he would never get away with hurting me, I could kick his a*s,” I said and we both laughed. She looked less tense than when we arrived, I could tell she’d had a fight with Tyson without having a vision, I can read people. “Have you actually seen my jewelry?” She asked a pretty valid question since we barely spoke. But I remember she use to make jewelry as a child, and I still had a necklace she made me for my 5th birth. Until I was 14 and it no longer fit I never took it off, now I worn a crescent moon that Javier bought me for my 16th birthday. “ “You’ve lived around here your whole life?” Sarah asked with a hint of suspicion in her voice that I wouldn’t hold against her. “Not my whole life really, my parents have a farm,” I told her. “Trust me I’m not a farm girl and neither is my mom she’s a total city girl, that’s where I get the shopping addiction. And well Javi works a lot so we haven’t had time to go anywhere in the 5 years we’ve been married.” “How old were you when you got married?” “Oh I was 17.” “Wow you were young like , wanna come?” I asked. “Sure I guess,” she said. “With “Impulsive is me marrying Javi when we never kissed or even told each other we had feelings for each other. Well he showed up at my house and we kissed then he asked my dad if he could marry me. At least “Did you have some type of arranged marriage?” She asked staring at me like I was crazy. “Only by fate, I loved him almost my whole life and he was attracted to me when I was 16 but he never said anything because he’s older by 12 years,” I paused. “Kind of ironic since that’s how much older Sebastian is than “You sound all New-Agey,” she said and it was true. “A little, but trust me on this, fate brought me to you today,” I said. Maybe I spent too much time at temple with Shoshanna because I didn’t always randomly get preachy. Sarah and I talked some more about her jewelry and she showed me some pieces. Eventually we headed over to Sebastian and “Oh good Goddess,” I gasped and she smiled sheepishly. “That’s a record, you’ve never went more than an hour without a vision,” Javier said as we stepped inside. “Even I saw this one coming.” “ “I didn’t know until last night by accident,” she confessed. “There are no accidents or coincidences, just fate,” I told her. I placed my hand on her stomach purposely pulling a vision since my lucky streak had already run out. “Oh my Goddess!” I squealed when I got something. “Is something wrong?” “Sebastian you didn’t tell her?” I asked in complete shock. “Well I wasn’t sure, not like I know much about babies and pregnancies,” he said. “Oh God something is wrong isn’t it?” “Not unless you think twins is a bad idea,” Javier said. He was sitting in a chair with Noah hugging and jumping on him at the same time. “Twins?” She asked looking around at the three of us. “Sit and take deep breathes,” I told her as I guided her to the couch. “I can’t believe this,” she panted. “I didn’t even mean for this to happen, I just wanted to give Bastian the family he always wanted.” “You will, I see two beautiful healthy babies in your future,” I assured her. “Good,” Sebastian said. He didn’t make eye contact with any of us just kept his eyes on Mena who was biting a toy car on his lap. “Some humans can birth our kind brother,” Javier said. “Yeah but you know the stories of when it doesn’t work out, even some of mom’s kids didn’t make it,” Sebastian said solemnly. “Mackenzie’s visions are never wrong,” Javier pointed out. “I know,” he replied. “What the hell am I going to do with twins? Last night was when I decided to just have one baby, this ruins my plans,” “Baby it doesn’t have to, we could get a nanny or something so you can do what you need to,” Sebastian suggested. “No, I wouldn’t want someone else raising our children,” she shook her head. “We don’t need to make any decisions now,” he said squeezing her hand. “ “Don’t worry we won’t listen,” Javier said and Sebastian nodded. “I’m so stupid,” “No, but maybe you are a little impulsive like Sarah said,” I said. The bed was unmade so with a wave of my hand it was, it’s a pet peeve of mine. And since I was already using magic anyway, I made all of the things belonging to Noah and Mena rise from where ever they were and pack themselves neatly. The whole time “If I was a witch I could actually be a good wife,” she sighed falling onto the bed. “Not necessarily, my grandmother was once a very powerful witch and seer, she does everything by magic and can’t really do things naturally. She never married because gypsy witches tend not to but she was a terrible mother. Magic doesn’t solve problems it can occasionally create them. That’s why I clean my house myself and cook and what not with only the occasional touch of magic if I’m doing a lot at once,” I explained. “Bastian was so upset with me last night because I haven’t taken my pills, but it was an accident. He was stressing me out like crazy the last two months with his odd behavior then ya know telling me the truth and all. Then there’s my mother being difficult and Sarah being worried. Why am I 18 and pregnant? I never wanted my life to be like this but I thought it would make Sebastian happy to have a child of his own. Stupid me with all these stupid weird emotions,” she covered her face with a pillow. “It’s new but you’re feeling him along with your own emotions, it can be overwhelming. Being a wolf’s mate isn’t always fun, especially in the beginning when you’re getting use to each other. This happens to most non-wolf wolf mates; see me being Javi’s wife I’m kind of more or less like the alpha female. Since I’m not a wolf some people don’t think of me that way, but no matter what they still have to listen to me. Anyway I have certain responsibilities in the pack like helping people like you transition. When it happen to me I was just kind of on my own cause Javi only was with me a month after we got married and then was gone for a long time. The first two years of our marriage we weren’t really together. Then when he became Alpha he got more power like the ability to sense the many members of the pack, I had enough going on in my head without other people in there. Anyway sometimes it’s hard and you don’t know your emotions from his,” I told her. “How did could you be away from each other for two years if you were married?” She asked, good question I think our marriage is still recovering from that. “Well first he had to take Zenis down with the help of his brothers and that took awhile. Then there was fighting to become Alpha, which was brutal. And for awhile after he won he was challenged by members of the pack under the misimpression that they could beat him. Anyway after fighting regularly and coming to see me only to be bandaged up and have sex, two years had passed. I came back once he was certain of who was loyal to him and shortly after I returned I found out I was pregnant. Most of my marriage has been us being apart,” I said. Thinking bout that didn’t really make me happy but it was true. “Sorry Mackenzie but I wouldn’t want your life; I can’t even sort out what I want to do with mine. Maybe I was feeling his desperation last night and that was what made me think this was a good idea. Its not that I don’t want to give him a family, it’s just too much at once,” she said. “I know, but you have a family now that will support you and you don’t have to worry. If you need help there’s always someone that can help you, and that even means babysitting while you’re at school or work. Everything is going to fall into place, like with planning you a wedding before you start to show,” I said. “Twins though, really? I think I’m really going to need help since I can’t just get drunk and forget,” she said peeking out from under her pillow. “It’s a blessing, our mother Moon has given you a great blessing and she wouldn’t give you more than you can handle. And since sometimes wolves have lots of babies you’re lucky it’s 2 and not 5,” I told her and she stared at me. “I would die,” she said. “No sooner than you are fated to dear,” I replied. “ “Are you saying I don’t belong to them? I really always suspected I didn’t but the odds of him doing that twice are kinda slim right?” She asked with a mix of emotions in her eyes I couldn’t quite read. “I don’t know but something is different about you,” I said looking down at her. “I’ll read you, just not today because I’m already feeling weak for some reason. Since I only had like two visions today its weird, but I’ve been out of whack and kind of stressed so ya know.” “When did the visions start?” She asked. “Um honestly they’ve always been there; I just learned not to say anything about them when I was living with your parents. Sometimes I drew pictures of what I saw, I was afraid of what might happen if I even mentioned them,” I told her and she nodded. “Do you believe in God the way my parents do? I hear you talk about a goddesses and the moon all the time,” she said. “Yeah I do, but I also believe that he’s not up there doing everything on his own. Everyone has a mate why not the creator of everything? I just think that the Goddess caters more to those of us of a more magical background and aren’t quite human.” “That makes sense,” she agreed. “So I’m guessing there’s no Christmas in the pack?” “Not in the traditional or religious sense, but Ana grew up with Christmas even though her family didn’t have much. So she made Zenis get a tree every year and we did all that stuff and a big dinner and all that. This year you’ll get to see how we do Christmas,” I said with a slight laugh. It was really always one of my favorite holidays. “I think that I really do want to be a mother and all it’s just a huge shock,” she confessed. “But I don’t want to be showing in my wedding dress.” “Don’t worry I’ll take care of everything. First we’ll get you to the doctor to see exactly how far along you are and that will give us a timeline. I’m thinking a week after the full moon, because trust me when I say you can’t get married moon week. So where were you thinking of having the wedding?” I asked, I loved weddings and had been to many in the past few years. “Well I don’t know we were talking about outdoor, maybe the beach,” she said sounding unsure. “Beach can get windy, but I can look into it,” I said. Mentally thinking of all the things I would need to do. “No it’s not that big of a deal, is there anywhere local?” “We could do the ceremony at temple and I promise I can make it presentable for your parents. For the reception there’s a beautiful courtyard at Moon Magic for such occasions, Stella and Loraine will cater. Here’s an idea, for your honeymoon you can go up to the beach house, I can make it very nice for you. Whatever you want we can do,” I said not wanting to make decisions for her. “Sounds good, you don’t have to do everything,” she told me. “I want to, you’re my sister and I’ll help you,” I said and she smiled. “Ya know I was thinking maybe I’m a vampire,” she said suddenly. “I have a sun allergy and I’m a total night owl, I’m super pale and my teeth are kinda sharp.” Of course she was joking but I had to wonder if that was possible and if so how she came to be with the “I was joking you know, I couldn’t be a vampire I go out in the sun and I don’t even like to look at blood,” “ “My life was a lot less complicated before I met Sebastian and before I found you again,” she said thoughtfully. “But it really was very boring then too and actually me having a father that isn’t creepy nagging Richard would make me feel a lot better. Still I’m holding out hope that they picked up the wrong baby, I’m so different from the whole damn family. We could ask her about the man, Rose is a bad liar.” “You’re not upset about this? I kind of freaked out when I found out the truth about where I came from even though it made a lot more sense,” I said. “Not really I need this to be true so I can explain my life,” she said excitedly. “How long will it take you to recharge your psychic powers?” “Don’t know, I’ve never been drained like this before, I’ll have to talk to Sierra. Something about that weird vision I had is making me feel so off,” I sad. This weak feeling wasn’t one I liked at all, I needed to be strong and on guard at all times. “Well I think we ought to be going, I have a few million things to look into, but we’re still on for dress shopping right? Sarah wants to come too and I think we could talk Auri into trying on a few of them too.” “Yeah, do they have a maternity wedding dress section?” She asked and we both laughed. I asked Javier about vampires when we were in the elevator, he of course didn’t know much about them. Growing up I was taught that vampires and demons were completely evil and soulless and that I would never see one. Nobody would ever believe that anyone would come into the wolves’ territory, it was too dangerous. But since currently we have possible intruders hiding with magic and I know demons aren’t soulless, that changed things. Being half demon myself I know first hand that demons, like wolves, witches and humans can be whatever they want. So logically vampires could be evil but they could also just be anything like everybody else. Could “Nooo Mama,” Noah said when we were down in the lobby. He wrapped his little arms around my neck and held a little too tight and wouldn’t let go. “Noah, baby, what’s wrong?” I asked trying to pry him off, but he just held tighter, my baby is strong. “Noo,” Mena said kicking her little feet against Javier. “Maybe they need a nap,” Javier shrugged. We proceeded to the door that wouldn’t open. “Are you two doing this?” I asked, they both looked at each other so I knew. Even though their powers were bound they could occasionally do magic. “Just un-spell the door,” Javier said to me. I could do it but it seemed important to them that we stay. “Something isn’t right,” I said. Seconds later it became very clear what was wrong. Across the parking lot Javier’s car burst into flames with a very loud explosion. “Guess we have some intuitive babies here,” he said shaking his head. “They saved our lives,” I said completely dumbfounded. “Good work little ones.” “What happened?” Tyson asked when he came running down the steps. “Someone blew up my car,” Javier said calmly. I’m thinking he didn’t want to get mad because he could lose control and change. “You got lucky,” Sebastian said when he came down. “Not lucky, we couldn’t go out because the babies spelled the door,” he said. “Tyson you might want to call Maddox, I’m sure he’ll want to know about this. Kenzie go back up to Sebastian’s apartment with the children and have Auri bring Vince over.” “Should we go home?” I asked him but he shook his head. “No, I want you close to me, I’ll call Simon and have his police come over. And I’m going to have Phineas make sure the house is safe first. You might want to spell the apartment if you’re up to it and have Lynn and Sarah stay inside just in case,” he said. He kissed me and handed me Mena, this was why my husband was the Alpha. “Ok,” I said and as I was teleporting us back upstairs I heard him giving orders to Sebastian. I didn’t expect Sarah to be in the apartment, she stared openmouthed when we appeared out of thin air. “Thank God you’re alright,” “My little witches protected us,” I explained. I told her what happened while I conjured up a play pen to keep the babies entertained. “What just happened?” Sarah asked coming out of shock. “Guess she was going to find out anyway if she stayed with Tyson,” “Yeah and with you marrying Sebastian,” I said. “Sarah, I am a witch.” “What? There’s no such thing as witches,” she said. “You wouldn’t believe the things that exist in this world,” “Aurielle,” I called out. “Please come to me and bring Vince with you.” “Who are you talking to?” Sarah asked but seconds later Auri appeared with Vince and she just stared. “Emergency situation Vince, someone blew up Javi’s car when we were about to get in it,” I said. Silently he nodded and went out the door. “Thank the Goddess you’re alright,” Auri said. “Oh does she know about us now or something? Tyson let her in the inner circle?” She asked indicating Sarah. “No, he didn’t tell her and there was no real time to explain cause-” I stopped when I vision came on. “I guess I could try to spell this apartment,” Auri was saying when I came back. “Tyson!” I yelled and he appeared instantly, poor Sarah was not prepared for this. “Princess, is something wrong?” He asked, avoiding eye contact with Sarah. “Tell Javi he needs to get the police and an ambulance over to Zenis’ house, he’s been attacked and he’s not there alone,” I told him. With a nod he was gone again. “Come on Auri we need to work a protection spell and I’m too weak to do it alone.” We held hands and chanted a protection spell; I could feel what energy I had left seeping from me. This wasn’t even a spell that should be able to drain me. I really needed to see Sierra, I could feel it. Even though I felt exhausted I couldn’t sleep or rest at all really. There was so much to be done. At least with Auri with me she would keep me grounded a bit and together we are more powerful. After we cast the spell I had to sit down for a minute to collect myself, by that time Tyson had returned with Sebastian to watch over us. “What are you?” Sarah asked Tyson whose horns were standing up; there was no hiding his secret now. “Sarah I didn’t want you to find out like this,” he said. “But I can’t control them when things like this happen and I have to do my job.” “And what job would that be?” “Protecting Mackenzie and the children,” he said. “She’s a witch and you’re what exactly?” She asked sounding angry, I felt so bad. “I am a demon,” he whispered. “Sarah it’s not the way you think, things aren’t as black and white as we were taught to believe,” “You knew what he is?” Sarah asked and “How can you think that? Tyson is so sweet, besides Mackenzie is half demon and you aren’t afraid of her,” “Wow I forgot how weird they can be about us,” Auri said to Sebastian. “Look Sarah, “You’re some kind of monster too?” Sarah asked him, I noticed “Well since you ask I’m not a demon or a witch, I’m a wolf,” he said. “Does this mean our babies will be like you?” “Unless our seer tells us, we won’t know for sure what they’ll be until they’re older,” he told her. “ “Thanks, I’m told we’ll be having twins,” she said. Sebastian proudly kissed her forehead and rubbed her stomach. “I can’t be here,” Sarah said getting up from the couch. “ “Please don’t leave Sarah, it isn’t safe and I can’t come with you,” Tyson said when she was at the door. “Why the hell would I want to be near you? How bout if I leave whatever you’ve left in my apartment in the hallway? And you can lose my number and forget you know me,” she said. Though we were pretending not to listen, we could all hear the hurt and betrayal she was feeling in her voice. Some people just weren’t ready for the truth. “Sarah, please don’t be like this, I wanted to tell you the truth but I was afraid you would react like this. I am not a monster; unlike most of my kind I’m actually half human. Even if you’re upset with me don’t blame your sister and please stay here where I can protect you,” he pleaded. When he said that I think everyone in the room aside for Sarah knew Tyson had a way bigger secret. “Stay away from me,” she said and slammed the door on her way out. “Ty, she’ll come around,” I told him. “You asked why I don’t bother with females anymore, that’s why,” he growled. “I knew better, and now it’s worse than before.” “How long have you known?” Sebastian asked. “Since I met her,” he grumbled. “You were celibate for 6 years; I haven’t been close to a female in more than 100 years.” “Go after her,” Auri suggested. “If she’s yours you don’t get a choice.” “She’s only upset because she’s in love with you and she’s freaked out,” “No, I’ll leave her in peace like I should have done already,” he said. Clearly that was supposed to be the end of the conversation. “Oh no,” I whispered and they all stared at me. “Both of you have to go get Sarah, there’s a werewolf in her apartment.” I told Tyson and Sebastian who took off half a second later. The vision left me feeling even weaker. Tyson froze when he saw the creature on top of Sarah who was screaming. Sebastian approached the werewolf with his claws and ready to fight. But this wasn’t his fight. Sarah was Tyson’s mate even if she didn’t know it and hated him for what he was. It was a rare thing that he actually went fully demonic, but he did for her. The werewolf lunged at him with strange glowing red eyes. The stupid creature had no idea what he was dealing with. Tyson caught him by the throat, snapped his neck and tossed him to the side. Unfortunately he hadn’t arrived fast enough. “What the hell happened?” Vince asked from the doorway. “He was waiting her for someone to return,” Sebastian said. Both men studied the body that had turned back to human. Tyson was on his knees half changed back holding Sarah’s bloody limp body. Why was fate so cruel? After all this time he found her and now he could lose her. Hadn’t he dealt with enough in his way too long life? He put his ear to her chest, her heart was still beating. Without even knowing he was doing it, he took them back the other apartment. The females gasped when they saw Sarah. Mackenzie called out for While they looked over Sarah’s injuries, Tyson just watched. If she lived he was never going to let her out of his sight again. Even if she hated him and didn’t want to be near him, he was going to protect her. The witches joined together to perform a healing spell. Mackenzie was pale, he knew he should tell her not to do it, but he couldn’t form the words. She was a witch this was what witches did, she would sleep it off. Sarah might not come back to him. And if she did, what if she was changed? It was an actual werewolf that attacked her, the born wolves couldn’t turn you but the real things could. He had to put all the strength he had left into controlling the rage building inside him. Never in his life did Tyson feel this much rage. He wanted to break something or kill someone, anything. And he couldn’t even force himself to change the rest of the way back to human form. ********************************** Weak from the healing spell we performed on Sarah I closed my eyes for a second. That was all it took. Like before I was hit hard by a vision. When I opened my eyes I wasn’t on the couch anymore, I was in what looked like a dungeon. A man looked at me with a stunned expression; I was just outside the cell he was in. He wasn’t as beaten as my uncles had been, but he wasn’t healthy either. The way he stared I knew he could see me. It was when he moved to get closer that I saw the gold band, he was another of my uncles. “Can you see me?” I asked him and he nodded. “What are you doing here child? Are you here as another form of torture?” He asked looking weary. “No, actually I don’t know how I got here or why. But I know you, well kind of, you’re my uncle,” I said showing him my band. “It appears so, who do you belong to?” He asked studying me like he wasn’t sure if I was real. “Maddox is my father,” I told him and his eyes got wide. “My little brother has a grown daughter, I really have been here a long time,” he shook his head. “Well niece I am Arian, I was the second son, and your name is?” “Mackenzie, the first born, but I have a little sister named Mena and my mother is pregnant now,” I said. “Where are we?” “This is home, or it use to be Princess. I’ve been living in this dungeon for a very long time. Since my wonderful father faked my death and had me locked away,” he said bitterly. “What? How can that be? My dad never said anything about that,” I said stunned. “He does not know, if he did he would have killed our father. As I understand it he resented him for letting me die anyway. Father wasn’t pleased to find that one of his sons preferred males instead of females and he could never let someone like me be a king. Not that I actually wanted to be king, still I was an embarrassment to him,” he shrugged. “Now how did my king brother’s child end up here?” “Well I’ve been having weird visions lately and I guess it really moved me. Honestly I have no idea how this keeps happening, I don’t even know if I’m in the past, present or future,” I admitted. “Sorry I do not have a calendar, but did you say visions?” “Oh right well my mom is a witch and I inherited being a seer from my grandmother. Not to worry though I am also slightly demonish,” I said. Though it occurred to me that I probably shouldn’t tell him too much about me. “Interesting,” he said watching me. “You don’t have to worry that anyone will find you down here; I’m in isolation as a punishment for shaming my family. It’s a punishment carried over into new management because I wouldn’t join his cause. Not even after a lot of torture, so they moved me back down here and throw food at me every once in awhile. Few years back I was up with the other prisoners, so I know that Nathan and Stefan are here somewhere too. Sadly he thinks he can break them and has given up on me, I would take a beating for my brothers any day. But as you can see I’m the forgotten gay in the basement. That is the term the humans use right? There isn’t a word for it in our language, but I remember humans using that word years ago.” “Yeah that’s what they say,” I said. “I wish I could get you out of here.” “No need to worry, I am positive that my brother will free us one day. I always had faith in him; he would never let anyone down. Poor kid never wanted to be a king; he was too smart for that. I would think that they don’t teach you kids much about this place these days, but trust me when I say a damn monkey could be a king,” he laughed but seemed surprised at the sound. “Since you’re starting to fade I’m guessing our time together over.
