Thankful

How a girl came across me during a rough time in high school, and helped me out through many circumstances.

You really deserve to be happy
You have done so much for me
You found and sheltered my broken heart
Picked up the pieces, and gave me a new start

I was shown things I’ve never seen before
You started taking pain away, something I wouldn’t feel anymore
I could never imagine love was such a powerful thing
I never realized how much I was missing

Through all my moments of grieve
You would show me love the world wouldn’t believe
For the first time known to me, someone was proud
My head was above the dark clouds

I couldn’t believe the happiness I was being shown
Our relationship hadn’t even become fully grown
Was only the dark skies that would block the sunset
That Id find out your most impactful day yet

On this day, alone and full of darkness
I was looking for a way out, quick and painless
Scared, you came with hopes to persuade
And convince me you did, you are the reason I stayed

I can never repay what you did for me
But alas, I hope this poem will let the world see
That their brother, son, and friend
Is only here thanks to a girl who wouldn’t let his life end.
