Popeye

Popeye

A Poem by Bill MacEachern

Popeye

I’m a ruffian
I’m unrefined
Still unpolished
What’s mine is mine

I’m a ruffian
An un-tumbled stone
Got rough edges
So I live all alone

I’m a ruffian
Like Popeye says
"I am what I am,
And that’s all that I am.”

I see a bit of myself in this satirical piece. Selfish stubborn as hell and set to my ways. I think old age has only hardened me a bit more. Despite my proclivities I feel I'm still capable of change, but only under my terms haha. An enjoyable piece of poetry Bill.
