Chicken EggA Poem by William Michael ReevesFor Cherrie Palmer who asked me, "Which came first ... ?
For millions of years large eggs
were laid by dinosaurs. Now, modern man with questions begs; read this to answer yours. 0~0~0~0~0~0~0~0~0~0 A Dactyl name of Pterra Fair flew primordial skies. Had need to land and lay a pair ... hear baby dino cries. Her mate was called ~ he's Firma Prime; with haste he built a nest. Relieved, she dropped her eggs in time; laid two, then took a rest. But lo! She saw that one was small, and white as snow 'pon peaks. The father shrieked, "Not mine at all!" They nudged it with their beaks. The hatchling cracked its brittle shell ~ from evolution hopped. A chick of theirs they could not tell. One look ... their eyeballs popped! Like nothing e'er before been seen, a yellow ball of fluff, was born of cute mutated gene ~ parental hopes went puff. The other egg then broke and hatched a dragon like it should. Yet, try they would with kids mismatched to raise them if they could. With wings as strong as they were wide their progeny took flight. But chick looked down and tried to hide, when all that air caused fright. Then comets rained upon the earth ~ long winter did descend. Despite its prehistoric birth, for birds ... was not an end. It found a hole and hibernates; for eons chick laid low. And waited for what time creates, the life that we all know. 0~0~0~0~0~0~0~0~0~0 So, if you wonder which was first, the chicken or an egg?
