A Chapter by Billie Troy

11:45 PM

I enter my house hoping for something comfy to sit on and a nice drink to celebrate my success of the night. Only she was there, I could tell by the way she left her jacket on my leather couch and her heels on the floor besides it. Also, a wine bottle had been left on the counter, along with a glass, half full. I grabbed it, sitting on the couch and checking into the rest of the baseball world that had been lived in today.

She came out, her brown locks flowing down her bare shoulders. She wore a top that let her stomach show, and her cut offs, let me adore her young legs. “Hey” I said to her as she sat down besides me.

“That was mine” she groaned reaching for the glass I held carefully. “And you smell” She grabbed the glass from me and sat closed into herself. I attempted putting my arm around her but she refused. So I moved to the end of the couch, enjoying the stats. “Really?” she questioned looked at me. Her beautiful brown eyes entranced me.

“How was your day?” I asked her, trying to change the subject. She got up and walked into the bathroom. This was the sign that I upset her, but then she yelled to me “are you gonna join me?” This made me smile a bit, as I got up to shower.

3:10 AM

An alarm I didn’t own woke me. She kissed my forehead and tried to get out of bed, but I grabbed her. Pulling her close to me she told me she had to go. “Why?” I asked with nasty air. “Please let me go Tenner, I’ll explain when I get back.” This wasn't the first time she had done this to me, and this time I wanted to know where she was going.

“Tell me.” I still held her and tried to keep her with me by kissing her neck. “Please tell me.”

“Let me go!” She screamed at me, I did as she told, but followed her to the bathroom.

“Tell me where your going.” She laughed at me. “It’s not funny, I don’t understand why you won’t tell me.” She came close to me, grabbing my face and kissing me slowly.

“Don’t worry, honey.” She then passed me and began dressing. My anger bubbled inside me.

“I hate when you do this to me” I said almost silent.

“What?”

“I said, I hate when you do this to me!”

“Shh” She rushed to me, touching my hair and closing herself around me. Only this time I wasn’t going to take it. I griped her shoulders, managing to pull her off me.

“Tell me.”

“It’s nothing you need to worry about.” She said turing around and walking out to the front room. I followed close behind her, then let her move into the kitchen to make herself some coffee.

“I don’t get it Harper.” I started. “I’ve known you for three years now and you can’t even trust me with where your going at three in the morning?”

“Stop”

“What?”

“Please, just stop.” She looked down, thinking of her next words carefully. “Or…or I’ll leave and you won’t see me ever again.”

“Really? Three whole years and your just gonna leave?” Her brown eyes met mine.

“Yeah.”

“Go ahead then!”

“What?”

“I said go ahead! If you can’t even tell me where your going all the time then leave!” It took me great strength to say this and I could tell from her face that she knew I wasn’t joking around. She mumbled something. “What was that?” I asked as she walked towards me.

“I’ll be back here after your game.” Then she walked out, just like that.

I ran to the door and screamed “Fine! But I may not even be here anymore!” Thats when I crumbled, I fell to the ground. Dissolved into a grey man. Someone who couldn't see color anymore but also couldn't leave. She knew me too well at this point, she knew, I was wrapped around her finger and would always be here for her when she needed me. Thats why I played baseball. So I could escape her nails, and her ways around me.
