I Am They

I Am They

A Poem by Bill MacEachern

"I am They”!

“They”
Are the Irish
The Black
And the Jew
“They’re
The innocent
All thrown
In the stew

"They”
Are your family
Your neighbor
Your friends
“They’re”
Used by bigots
As weapons
Again

“They"
Can be anyone
Anyone
You choose
“They’re”
Used as fodder
“They’re” an old
Racist tool

Gee
To many folk take offence " because they can"
I was raised in a non pc environment through the sixties, have worked mainly in a non pc environment, construction, but of late have been stopping myself from commenting, replying to questions, queries for fear of upsetting somebody within ear shot.
Of course I am against bullying, racism and any kind of discrimination but folk these days are taking everything to the enth degree, often to gain the moral high ground or compensation.
I am and will always be bloke before woke :)
