Lilly White Blood

Lilly White Blood

A Poem by BikerAngie

Daily I passed the door man
As he would open the door for me
I never notice his smile
Nor the twinkle in his eye
I noticed he was “BLACK”
Daily I left him standing
Holding the door for me
Not one word of kindness from me

He stood there holding the door
As the ambulance attendants wheeled me out
I saw his look of concern
To my amazement
I heard him say a little prayer
“Be with her Lord”
“Comfort and care for her Father in Heaven”
Was that a tear on his cheek

Daily I ordered my cappuccino from the counter girl
Extra froth was always put in my cup
I never noticed her smile
Nor the twinkle in her eye
I noticed she was “Mexican”
Daily I hurried away
Leaving her to her line of customers

Not one" thank you" for her extra care of my order

At the hospital I am placed on dialysis
I am told without a kidney there is little hope
“A year tops "I am told
Family is not an option they all have been tested
The waiting list is over three years long
Days latter I return home
To start my new routine
Dialysis three times a week

Daily I take the taxi
To the hospital and back
I never notice the drivers smile
Nor the twinkle in his eye
I notice he is “Italian”
I leave him holding the car door
As I am wheeled into the hospital
Not one word of encouragement do I murmur

In the hospital I am told they have found a match
I am told the surgery needs to be done immediately
I notice the Star of David on my Doctors neck
“Jewish” I think to myself
As the “Cuban” anesthesiologist puts me to sleep
I see Jesus ever changing Face
Black, Mexican, Italian, Middle Eastern, Cuban
Confused I drift of to sleep

I awaken in my room to smiles of loved ones
I notice the twinkle in their eyes
As I explain my vision of Jesus
They explain the vision to me
The door man donated his kidney
The waitress donated blood
The driver was in constant prayer for me
My Blood no longer rune “Lilly White”

And my unknown prejudice is gone

Thank You Jesus

Wow! Loved your take on racial bias and how we're really all essentially the same... how fabulous that all those people helped you...!!! Very encouraging read BikerAngie... very encouraging... brought tears to my eyes! Flows well, fabulous! :) And glad you're ok now and getting on with life :)

This is a great story, nicely written, that rings true. There are a few grammatical and spelling errors which I must admit do distract me somewhat, however, I enjoyed reading it. Thank you.

this makes for a wonderful fable. we don't realize that we are prejudice in one way or another. it took near death for her to change her ways. the ending gives just resolution. great poem.

Wow! That was beautiful. We are all people of faith and just want to do good in life.
Did notice a couple of wrong word errors. The last two full stanzas, both on the last lines ...drift of to sleep and ...rune “Lilly White” - off and runs.

And to tell you the truth I agree and I am glad that you are developing it more.
