Kate

Kate

A Poem by Daniel Winters
"

not a real story, but a real girl

"
You
laughed politely.
Your teeth
making white triangles
between
dawn sky cheeks.
I wanted
to sit next
to you
and we could
talk
really quietly,
really close-up.
I wanted
to hold your hand
under the table
and watch
your smile
climb up to the edges
of your cheekbones,
and hear you laugh
in that way
you do.
And know
that we could have
that moment
for the rest of
our
lives.
