A Poem by Daniel Winters
"

Why I'm bad at poker

"
You bet early
and I knew
you got dealt
something good.
I had a two of spades
and a five of diamonds
but I called anyway.
When that ace came up
I knew
you would bet high;
but a six of clubs
and a three of hearts
came up too
and I called
before I could convince
myself not to.
A queen
came on the turn.
No help
to no-one,
but that didn't stop you from
going all-in.
I knew you would
and I knew I
shouldn't
but sometimes
you've got to believe
in something more
than blind luck.
