Roads to Paths

Roads to Paths

A Poem by Daniel Winters

The roads we walk
Are barely footpaths
Anymore.
Walking with shifting
Immeasurable distances between us.
We retain our course
At crossroads,
Because choices we never made
Can never be wrong.
The gaps between us
Aren't just physical
Or metaphorical.
Their audible.
Taking away trusted words:
Love, forever, passion, us.
Leaving us with ones,
We truly thought we understood:
Honesty, courage, empathy, trust.
It was never the destination,
Or the journey.
It was time spent,
For forgotten reasons.
