Dream Fiction

I realised the other day, that the lives we see and hear in fiction aren't too different from our own, except that their a lot shorter, and a lot easier.

Invisible barriers distract me with life not my own.

Six strings take me away,

But never for long enough.

Never for long enough.

Good guys will always get the girl,

Whilst I’m stuck waiting for the third act.

It all looks so perfect on that big screen.

Life unedited takes too long,

Even if it has a happy ending.

Sometimes words alone can't pick you up. 

And sometimes true love just isn't. 

But these aren't just dreams,

They’re just a different life on a different day.

is the first line clear enough? I'm trying to get across the idea that when your listening to music, it distracts you with its own story, and cuts you off from your own from a short while. Not sure if its easy enough to understand at the moment

Are you talking about lyrical songs or movie scores? It sounds as though someone was watching a movie with very loud surround sound but it still was not enough to drown out 'thought'...

This is absolutely gorgeous! Im a musician, so I enjoy reading poems much like this :)

This tells so much, and it is true that music can distract you from your real life, even if its just for a moment. Also, I think that the lines "Whilst I’m stuck waiting for the third act./It all looks so perfect on that big screen./Life unedited takes too long,/Even if it has a happy ending." are GENIOUS! It's so true.

i love love love the line six strings take me away. freaking amazing. music is so incredible and powerful. what would the sad souls do with out it? wouldnt we hurt so much more with out it?

I really like this. I understood the piece very well. I agree with you that the lives of fictional characters are similar to are own, yet it seems that the characters have a "happy ending" in the end of their story or live through something that most wouldn't have survived. (I'm just thinking aloud)
