I'm Sorry

I'm Sorry

A Poem by Daniel Winters

You understood me,

but even you

couldn’t make me drink

from

that water.

I used to carry you

on lonely nights, down

paths with no names.

You set me free,

expecting  me

to come back, just for

the pleasure of

carrying you

again.

But I need to be myself

just as much

as you do.

We’re looking at different

horizons

now, and I can’t help

but wonder

if you’re thinking

of me.

I hope you are.

I think of you

every time the dusk crawls in

and the paths get dark;

stranger,

more dangerous,

more inviting.
