End and BeginningA Poem by Shin ( formerly known as ) Bidayahby Shin
Something that begins must have an end, And somewhere in the center is the middle, However the curiosity we encounter, these days, Is the supposition that in the beginning was mind, A mind of the most mysterious disposition, Which, till today is unable to state its intention, Nor reveal its grand design of purpose, To the man who asked, ' How much further?' He may have replied, ' A little bit more,' To that which asked, 'What's it about?' He might have responded with, ' You and me.' But to the tentative inquiries of the one who asked, ' Is...is...it...you?' He probably would have been thoughtful, And then given his reply, in the manner of the non-verbal, ' Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies.' As Zen says, 'This morning I ate gruel, now I'm hungry again.' But to the Lady who asks, ' Did you toss that ball Through my window pane?' He might have said, ' But I thought it was shatterproof.'
