The Birds of Borghese

The Birds of Borghese

A Poem by Shin ( formerly known as ) Bidayah

It's nice to take a walk in the mornings.

I left before dawn and hoped to catch the sunrise,

Its terribly humid today, been that way these two days.

Entering the park through the Porta Pinciana,

I got to my seat at the Temple of Aesculapius,

The sky was starting to purple and shine the gold.

The Borghese is almost a museum of parks, historically,

Its just great to be here from time to time.

I had sat on the bench, next to a street lamp,

And noticed some swifts flying overhead, some jays

Were nearby and a few budgies on the ground.

A white butterfly flew and nosed around the touch-me-nots

On the ground and seemed to pay no attention to anything else.

Suddenly a fracas broke out in the neem tree where the birds were,

It was getting really loud and then I noticed with some alarm,

That the tree was closest to where I was sitting and,

Given a entire row of trees nearby, they were all on this one.

I thought it was starting again and quickly took my bag,

And walked away from the temple area. Another time Aesculapius.

I have to speak to Lyon about his cousin Shin who's staying with us,

Lyon's so protective about things and I hope it'll be okay.

Great imagery. I'm sure things will be all right; they're only birds.
