Don't Tell

Don't Tell

A Poem by Shin ( formerly known as ) Bidayah

How we know, what we know,

Comes from a great many things,

We observe, we note and reason,

Then we create tentative perceptions,

Which may be affirmed in time,

But what we don't have in reality,

Is the acceptance of the truth of another,

Certainly not with the grace of our own faith,

With or without a confession as to the true.

We will never understand its basis,

For a confession opens our minds,

To the nature of the phenomenon,

And to be mindful of our nakedness.

Where one fears judgment, we recoil,

And ask for help from our creation,

That our strings are not cut by our honesty.

Where we decry an unfair punishment,

It stops, our covenant with the all.

Do we therefore come to contest on issues?

Do we take our destiny in our own hands?

As above, so on earth. Will we see?

Or keep company with Jonah in derision?

We should accept no truth but that which our own minds tells us is so. Whether with Jonah in the big fish or Jonah under the tree.
