Two Cities

Two Cities

A Poem by Shin ( formerly known as ) Bidayah

The world's men of letters have been kind,

They have in their writings explored issues,

That poets today seek again with new vigor.

In the Tale of Two Cities, Dickens was clear,

On the matter of the eros between the two,

Whether such a position refers to men or women,

Or whether it creates a cross between the sexes.

Whatever we may today view as implications of it,

It was a wonderful tale of sacrifice and love,

Between all of them, bound by a common humanity.

Love seeks to give of itself and will not be denied,

We learnt that recently in the world's experience,

A lesson we believe will be the start of a new future,

That our children will take and create a lead on life.

In that, we may find hope for the destiny of mankind.

"A Tale of Two Cities" was absolutely a great book. I would say it was Dickens' best, but he was such a good writer, it's hard to choose among his books.
