She

She

A Poem by Shin ( formerly known as ) Bidayah

She opened her eyes to view the world,

Not yet the focus on will, but the calm.

Then the great bird of the universe peers,

Returns her gaze, with the sun at its beak.

The baby smiles and knows of its environ,

Within, in the great hall of lives before and after.

As she reaches for her beatitude at sixteen,

It floats to guide her into a perception,

That of the self and its promises of joy,

Which her heart hankers for. She toses her moorings,

Picks on an orchid,* the sign of the future possibility,

And receives the willing of the light in the eyes.

And when the man puts his arms around her,

A deep and subtle wonder primes itself in him,

At the mysterious delight that body creates in his void,

And he receives in his heart, the gift of companionship.

* Representing the exotic nature of the male or child as the case may be.
