A Makeover

A Makeover

A Poem by Shin ( formerly known as ) Bidayah

In economics, they refer to it as structural changes,

When the economy undergoes fundamental shifts,

A person gets unemployed, they change their job.

Sometimes, they move, learn a new skill, a new line,

Which brings an immeasurable amount of changes

To one's personality, identity and relation to the world.

At times like this, something unexpected happens,

Away from our usual confidence in the old place,

Starting anew may involve having a mother to say its OK,

Or a pastor, perhaps a novel about someone starting over,

When we get that help, we realize why it is important,

Then we know why we have to help another the same way,

It is an incredible experience of our oneness in the world,

To have another, identify with our individual need that way,

Its something that transcends our social natures and savy,

It comes to us out of the blue, like a sudden inspiration,

It transcends our own lack of readiness and resistance,

It affirms the proof of the common identity we are inside.

And goes to deal with fundamental changes, as only it can.
