A Carving Knife

A Carving Knife

A Poem by Shin ( formerly known as ) Bidayah

Carrying a blade at the hip,

A tool sometimes for the mind,

In a sporting culture, like the U.S.,

Where Shin says a gun is more than a gun,

Is where it becomes a tool of the arts,

The way Shin takes down a mallard,

The aim, the steadiness of the hands,

Such is the stuff of dealing with life's tunes,

Same thing with the mind, no different.

Take a mighty hunter, who's killed a mammmoth,

Then tell him something he doesn't know,

And then you realize he is not so mighty.

So, the little things, keep the blade sharp,

The mind after all is also a manly sport.

Guns and knives are not enough to give life meaning.
