The Guaman

The Guaman

A Poem by Shin ( formerly known as ) Bidayah

Guaman*, a word that means justice in the Indonesian language,

An eagerness, enthusiasm that is unbridled and mismanaged,

Acts before it even realizes what it is doing, justice? law?,

A notion that it is the hand of god, a claim made by many,

All who share in the faults of love's labors, without guide on issues.

Not god, nor our appeals make a difference. Only the will of man,

That sits quietly to view the living condition, its imperatives,

Knowing that the guaman is interpreted in many ways,

As law, love, an orderly sense and above all, a uniting force.

But to those who suffer in the grips of the guaman's haste,

It is sadly, a mental abberation that denies its own faults,

Only to live a life of desperation and uncalm, in the face of life,

And hears the voice of the guaman, as the yeller of faults.

*Guaman - Gua means cave in Indonesian.
