The Inimitable Mr. Is

He was smiling when he was born,

His father thought it was strange,

But Mr. Is proved him wrong.

He had a normal upbringing,

And grew into a stalwart teenage,

Wise beyond his years, sense of humor,

Dressed well and spoke eloquently,

But Mr. Is was a man of great curiosity.

It wouldn't ordinarily have been a fault,

In fact such impulses lead to strong successes,

But beyond the boundaries of the norm,

Mr. Is started to experiment with life.

Had thought he liked sex but later didn't,

Became gay but then dropped out,

Got into a cocaine lifestyle but preferred grass,

Worked for a while as a movie extra,

Then figured he wanted to know the world,

Became a guru's apprentice in Arcadia,

But couldn't stand the smell of incense,

Got married but broke away after that,

Because the children kept telling him to grow up,

He figured in the end that he's a drifter,

And an extraordinary one at that,

And wondered perhaps his parents were wrong,

To have given birth to him in the world,

He figured that his was the life of the unborn,

In a universe that is without beginning or end,

Still waiting for the day of a perfect creation.
