The Earth Beneath Us Moved

The Earth Beneath Us Moved

A Poem by Bibik DU
"

There was a RARE earthquake in Melbourne yesterday Needless to say, family and friends got online to check in on us. We are very grateful and thankful that we are loved.

"
The Earth Beneath Us Moved
Is that Grandpa Possum upon my roof?
Oh it's those critters I want removed
Wait a minute what is this?
Clattering pots? Something's amiss!
The floor's crawling under my feet!
Ground is trembling along my street!
 An earthquake in Melbourne, Australia?
Phone calls stream from SG to Malaysia
 Be ready for the aftershocks
And avoid the coasts at all cost
 Concerns flow from every corner
First with Covid, now this bother
Is there no end to all our troubles?
NO! Coz in threes they come, not doubles
 Be prepared and just accept
Cool and calm with self respect
 Fears allayed and faith renewed
When the Earth beneath us moved

Just some buildings but no fatalities. Thanks for dropping by!
That had to be quite scary! And I'm sure you're dealing with aftershocks too. Your poem certainly conveys those feelings! Your feelings of gratefulness comes across in the ending... well done, stay safe!

Such a powerful ending! The rhyming scheme is brilliant and flows very well with the whole poem. The phrases build such a humorous yet serious plot. Glorious work!

Wow! Thank you for your very encouraging and generous review.
Earthquakes are no joke. I lived through the 89 Earthquake in Nor Calif. I saw telephone poles swaying in ways they're not meant to and cars bouncing 3 feet off the ground. It was the scariest thing I had ever experienced. It literally felt as if the world was ending. Hope all are safe over there.
