Scaling New HeightsA Poem by Bhagyashree BirjeThis poem written by me, Bhagyashree Prakash Birje, is based on a true story of Arunima Sinha, the youngest girl in the world to scale Mt.Everest despite being handicapped.Amidst the mountains, amidst the snow; Lay a girl climbing since long ago. She was forcing her way against the wind; Not letting her fatigue to keep her pinned. The sky above was getting dark with night; While the gods kept watching the 25-year-old girl fight. She was fighting hard to prove her strength; By trying to scale the Mt.Everest's length. She felt the hunger, the numbness and pain; And yet she decided to keep trying again. For 51 days she kept climbing; To seek her destiny, she kept striving. On the windy morning of 21st May; She set out hiking on her way. And then suddenly, there it was, the peak. Her hands were almost dead and pink were her cheek. WIth a proud shine in her eyes; The Indian Flag she ties. She watches the flag gracefully unfurl; While standing, with the girl, on top of the world With 2 bright eyes, she gazes; With 1 right hand , she salutes; And with 1 good leg she stands,
With only 1 good leg she stands! © 2016 Bhagyashree BirjeAuthor's Note
