Day is Done

For all the sweet children gone to see our Savior

Lay down again, my child, one last time.
Day is done.
Close your eyes and sleep be yours in Thine.
Set be the sun.
The warmth of the bed shall hold thee tight,
Angels shall come for you tonight,
Cry not, for it shall be alright,
Be still now, my child, close your eyes.
Day is done.

Forget your troubles, child, for He is near.
Day is done.
Short were you days filled with cheer.
Set is the sun.
Your mind may dream of distant places,
Your tears which fall, He now erases,
Your rosy cheeks the angels kiss,
Rest easily, dear child, God carries you.
Day is done.

Hold my hand, dear child, He calls.
For day is done.
Go with Him. On your life, night befalls.
With the setting sun.
Let your breath go and may it linger here,
May you smile and shed not a tear,
Answer, for He’s whispered, ‘Come’ in thy ear,
Fly away to Him, my dear child, fly away.
Day is done.

Laugh, my child, rejoice in His presence!
Day is done.
Dance and sing for Him. Your pain relents!
Set with the sun.
Life here was short. I cry, you’ve left me,
But you’ve gone to Him, no pain to see,
May you always smile and remember me,
Goodbye, my child, until we meet again.
Day is done.

Author's Note

This is one of my personal favorites. Mainly because the thought of an innocent child meeting Jesus is one of the deepest sweetest thoughts I've known. But I'd love to know what y'all think. Please review and rate. Thank you!!
