Your smile flashes through the bright lights

and I know it always will

Sometimes the memories are harder to swallow

than a ten pound pill

As coldness creeps in

and the saints try not to sin

As the jingle bells ring

and my sad heart tries to sing

Promise me you'll comfort me

with your sweet embrace

and your smiling face

As I stare at the star that I claimed for you in the sky

Please promise you'll comfort me as I remember you and cry

You may be gone from this place 

that we still walk 

But you'll never be forgotten because

your memories still talk

They talk to me many times a day

But their always shaded in blue during 

this......melancholy holiday

This is so awesome! I've written several for my best friend (RIP) but nothing coming close to this heartfelt tribute. I love the way you SHOW instead of tell, how the "missing" manifests using vivid details of the melancholy routine. I truly believe our angels are nearby, to help us get by. Beautifully captured tribute. Once, holidays were happy events, but can also be tinged with sadness for those gone, who fill your mind with happy memories of when they were here. I think bittersweet is the correct term for these days.
