Cold Gold

Cold Gold

A Poem by BBP

Cold blue hands lay
on the cold metal slab today

Last breath taken
a beautiful life foresaken

A smile that once lived in my eyes
now only lives in my mind

Laid to rest for eternity
those words are f*****g killing me

The cold March winds would mark another year old
reminding me that we eventually lose all that's gold

The faith I never had before
is all that keeps my blood off the floor

So I swear I'll change my ways
so I can meet you at the gates
when I reach my end of days

Thank you Hebe. No idea how true that line is! :) thanks for stopping by.
It feels like you were both on the same journey. But you were saved. Changing your life and ways. Powerful and angry as it needs to be.

Gee
Death is usually met with anger, regrets at words not said, resentment towards others we think should have gone before, the bad ones. But time, the heale, and the fondness of memories douses these burning fires. Such a well penned piece

Thank you Gee! :)
Heartbreaking sadness in this well written poem. We hope to live up to the standards of our departed loved ones so that we may be with them again someday. Will that happen? I suppose when we are gone, we will find out. Powerfully emotional words. Lydi**

Thank you for the kind review Lydia. It's so true that we try only in hopes.
This is so lovely and heartbreaking and I can absolutely relate to such heartache. I pray to a god I don't believe in because I am hoping for a miracle which will never come.

You're welcome Bev. :)
Beautiful write. It is only in loss that we realise how many thoughts, feelings and emotions don't matter and how the few matter beyond measure. A beautifully penned tribute.

Thank you Nemo. So true, it's never enough time....
great poem my friend...Leaving here is a part (a small part) of living here....Poets can do something about eulogy but nothing about leaving. So many among us can do nothing about nothing......We are so blessed......dana

Thank you very much for the sweet words. I like that take on it.
reminds me of J. Frank Wilson's "Last kiss"

"she's gone to heaven so i got to be good so i can see my baby when i leave this world"
experiencing death can make us appreciate life...and how we need to shape up.

Me too! Thank you Jacob
The passion of loss is real in this. The anger rises like a crescendo then falls gently in resignation and acceptance. Its like a requiem.
