A GIFT FOR ME

A GIFT FOR ME

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

always wanted...

"

In a moment’s flash as I pay the bill

I promised myself some time ago on my way to visit my soldier, I would stop in one of London’s department stores and search for something to buy, a gift for myself

formerly, my mind was in a tizzy, not in the mood

all I desired was to see him with utter excitement

nevertheless, times are quite different now

a shopping spree is well deserved

I must remember my waistline, changing quite rapidly

after browsing several floors, I spot a red dress

an A-line if you will, that flatters my growing belly

I purchase it with a smile, although perhaps not a full one

Promptly, I shall find a taxi and return to the hotel

I believe it necessary to chat with the hostess

to establish a scheme for the possibility of renting a flat, not long term but at least for a few months to gather my permanent plan

although nothing seems stable in my life now

yet, if I take that road, then I may as well deliver my baby  here in London

I shall not be able to travel near the end

and all the while I am here, I shall visit my soldier

one of these days I pray to call upon my true and real love

lamentably, not one who stares into space like a robot

I pay the taxi driver and climb the stairs to the hotel

must remember to ask the hostess her name

I am sure she has informed me, yet in my muddle

It seems to have escaped me

she seems quite pleasant and has been helpful to me

in the recent past

I enter the parlor and within minutes she greets me

her name is Christine, moreover

we sit down to chat in a lovely quiet setting

Well, our adventurer doesn't seem quite on steady ground yet, but she does seem to be making progress. Finding a fairly long term residence for the period after the baby is born is the big issue now, and she hasn't found a way to do this. She feels the hotel hostess, Christine, might have an answer, so she determines to ask her.

Sounds as though she may have found a compassionate friend in the hotel hostess, she could do with a female friend to confide in at the moment.
A gift for herself, a lovely dress in a bright colour will lift her spirits and make her feel better, well done that girl.... things are looking up :)

This is an extremely sweet poem written with a perfect flow, containing short and definitely intense emotions. very sweet and natural narration. It also makes the reader feel the confusion in her mind, but among these, there is a woman who continues to stay good, despite the many intense topics. And the ending is very sweet and to the point! A nice conversation that will reduce the intensity in her mind! hope i get it right what this poem meant to say! loved it tho.
