THE IMAGE

THE IMAGE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

forgetful, frustration

"

She stares at a blank canvas

eyes glossy barely blink

ts all in here memory

fades in and out

time flows without a spark

she retreats to the window

opens it, fresh air floods her nostrils

deems it may benefit her neurons

no photograph to copy

merely momentary recalls of her past love

on occasion she sees him in her mind’s eye

yet it too dissipates swiftly

That very night she dreams of the two

a pleasurable evening in darkness of night

no moon, no stars

just a touch of devotion

she views his sense of passion

clearly as if he was beside her in bed

At dawn she awakens with a startle

adorns her sleeping gown

rushes to her studio

where the empty canvas awaits her

with brush and paint in hand

she drafts a quick likeness

then composes more accurately

his smiling face

in turn she beams

at the last brush stroke

An opportunity presents to highlight white a camera might overlook and to de-enhance what the camera “chose” to spotlight. 🙏🏻🕊

Betty, many thanks for allowing your readers to again travel your wonderful book. By offering chapters or areas, you're displaying the care you took to use correct phrasing and words of that time which, of course, adds to the time, style and heart of your writing. Exampled by, '.. she retreats to the window'/ adorns her sleeping gown ., '. Again, thank you for sharing your skills - clever lady, you!

Silly me but - certainly not silly you: such fine writing.
:)
I feel like all art one must be moved and inspired to create. Write what you know as they say. Draw or paint what you love and are moved to. Because it's that captured glamour that others will see in the finished product. Which may hold some significant or resonance in their heart as well.

Warmly, B
Ah Betty , i do like this scenario.
The portrait will be much better than copied from a photograph, it will be the image of a real person, his smile, his eyes, not a fixed pose at all , itw will be a living image :)

That you Stella for this lovely review, the mind’s eye is much preferred than a photo!

My love of poetry results from my love of art. As a painter I am able to express myself on a canvas. As a poet my words come from my heart, my moods, sometimes sad, mostly upbeat. I like to use vivid .. more..
