MOON LOVE

MOON LOVE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

reach high

"
When i was a little girl
I would sit on our stoop
after we had our supper
and I would look for the moon
Sometimes it disappeared and I was sad
other times it was tiny
but I remember on a very clear night
the moon was big and round
and it looked very close to me
so close i held up my arms so high
I could almost touch it
could not take my eyes off of it
so real and so many spots on it
I was so excited, I ran inside the house
and told my mommy that I almost touched the moon
she told me that some day people might visit the moon
my eyes popped I was so amazed
I went back outside
but this time a cloud passed by
I waited and there it was once more
then reached and reached and I said to myself, maybe some day I can visit the moon too

So enjoyed this read, took me back to the moon landing. I was very young but I watched the television nonstop. That Christmas mom and dad got me a telescope not very powerful but good enjoy to make a little kid’s eyes pop and fuel the imagination.

A lovely poem Betty. As children, didn’t we all take joy in the night sky? I remember summers taking a sleeping bag into the back yard and spending the night lying on the lawn just to look up into the sky.

I love this poem! It beautifully captures the wonder of childhood. The excitement of sharing her dream with her mommy feels so real. The ending, hoping to visit the moon someday, leaves such a warm, hopeful feeling. Lovely work, Betty!

I love this write, love the imagery in this so much, when I was younger I used to sit and talk to the man on the moon, thinking he could hear me. This is wonderful.

Oh Betty, we were so similar in our love for the moon as a child. I truly believed there was a man up there, and to this day, it still fascinates me to see it in all its phases. But there's also a message here, for no matter how old you are, you've got to keep reaching for what inspires you! Happy new year, and the warmest of wishes to you!

I stopped in on this one because of the name. I too have selenophilia. The Giant Space Egg is a huge part of my life. Some may call it Lunacy. I have lived by Casey Kasem's line "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars. We all need to chase our dreams like a lion chases a wounded gazelle. I have live by this all my life and have a wife who has been quite the enabler. My first words in Heaven are going to be "That was cool... Can I do it again?' What a great write here. It really touched me

You are welcome dear Betty and happy New year.
Very cute poem. Just beautiful like the moon and inncocent as a little girl. Moon especially on a full moon night had me see it at nights too as a little one. Now in the top floors I am fortunate to have a wonderful view with large windows making it easy and very clear to see the skies and moon from our beds. I enjoy it very much, next time on a clear night will remember your sweet lines as I lie down watching the beautiful the large white moon my dear!

Wasn't the moon everyone's best friend when they were little? This reminds me of when I was little and I would talk to the moon to stay awake. I don't know why, I believed that the moon and the sun were gods and I would tell them my problems and my day and eventually I would say, DIDN'T THE SUN ALREADY SEE MY DAY AND TELL YOU?

It's a concept about innocence and the fact that children's dreams are always possible. So I'm so glad you wrote this. It's definitely a universal experience. And who knows, maybe it really is everyone's friend...

Thanks for sharing. Amazing poem.
