THE GREEN STEM

THE GREEN STEM

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

the life of a rose

"

I am a green stem

my head is an orange rose

all of us in this garden are my sisters

sun shrouds us

rain nourishes us

lifespan re-produces

in our nest beneath the earth

protects us in the frigid of winter

when we huddle to warm our denuded  heads

our hot breaths envelop

and we ready ourselves to sprout when the snow melts

life is glorious as we nestle

our love sustains us

An orange head and not a mention of the Trumpet in sight! Impressive.
This is sn explanation of all the "but why" questions kids ask about plants not freezing to death and why trees can go outside naked but they cant.
