DRUNK AS A SKUNK

DRUNK AS A SKUNK

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Beach party

"
We all toasted to each other and got wasted
it was quite a scene at a remote beach
the sky was nearly black with a quarter moon and a few flickering stars
we laughed and cried about our momentary emotions
and hugged tight each other's shoulders
in camaraderie

In a while, we all decided to make a bonfire
retrieved some old driftwood, piled it perfectly
one of us took a match and lit it as we all
took a sip of our brew
in an instant, a great fireball of flames took to the sky
red, orange, yellow, a kaleidoscope of color
mesmerized us for minutes
each of us contemplating in our own deep souls
the present and the past
then laughed until we collapsed on the beach
drunk as skunks

What a fun ..very playful poem. Phrases like "drunk as skunks" use alliteration to create a playful tone.

Your poem captures the essence of friendship and the moments that bring people together, highlighting how these instances can lead to both joyful and introspective reflections.

Definitely enjoyed reading. Thanks for sharing.

Lol Betty love this one matter of the fact I'm drunk but alone but I do remember those day's hairs of the dog on open fire, yes those we're the day's.

this is quite good. you've got deep thoughts interlaced with the carefree and humor. as usual, you really know how to paint a scene. always have to be careful playing with fire but in this case i'm willing to stand close to warm myself with your words.

Thanks so much my friend, great review!

We enjoyed those days, didn't we? Of course that behavior was reckless, but that's how young people are, and we look back with fondness or at least amusement. Our parents were rightfully worried, and then we grew up to worry about our own kids out doing who knows what. Personally, I don't miss hangovers and wondering what crazy/awful thing I did the night before.

The most fun night. Drink, dance and conversation. I did once.

I enjoyed the poetry dear Betty and you are welcome.
Well surely a beach is the best place for a bonfire, because the sea will put it out eventually, but I wouldn't recommend falling asleep on the beach because you might very well float off and wake up with a hangover, while entering why you've washed up somewhere that doesn't speak English, as you Bob around in the sea wondering if it is Peru!
Good luck explaining that to the coastguard ! 😃

Oh Betty, this I poem is so relatable and takes me back many, many years to my much younger days. You have created a wonderful ambience here and your imagery brought people in my past, so much closer. Such fun and carefree times. Such hangovers the following day too. I love where you took me. All good wishes dear poet.
