BEST FRIENDS

BEST FRIENDS

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

romping in the park

"

when I was young
I used to romp in the park
with my best friend Patty
who lived across the hall
in the same building in New York City
We would bring our scooters along
to ride them in the nearby park
we would ride for hours scooting in between pedestrians
laughing, screaming for joy
careful not to hit anyone
One day, Patty fell off the scooter
she could no longer romp in the park
at once, a young woman came to her aide
she just happened to have a bandage in her pocket
and, a baby under her arm
with that, she was able to place the bandage
on Patty's knee
I felt sorry for Patty
as she had to limp home from the park
scooter in hand
i did the same to make her feel better
after all we were best friends

I love this sweet, sweet story. You are blessed with empathy. Not all are. I had a severe bicycle wreck when a kid, and a similar good Samaritan bandaged me up. I hope that lady with the baby was blessed tenfold.
