VALLEY OF NOWHERE

VALLEY OF NOWHERE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Chaos

"

Sea of mud tumbles from high green carpets

of mountains

rain water surges over blue boulders

permeating earth

survival

bridges slump into raging rivers

seizing houses in its wrath

crevice roads

Leaves lay heavy on branches

on the brink of a snap

twist over power grid

mother earth plays tricks on us

catches us by surprise

Dark, murky windows

flicker of a candle of hope

saws buzz day and night

roads blocked with collapse

tangled wires wrap around tree trunks

signs warn, police lights flicker

lakes of mud

Moments of silence

amid chaos

trapped in its misery

This is the opposite side of the coin which states that life can be a dream, but on this side it reminds us that life can also be a scream from the nightmare so many have woken to.
The saddest sites you see in the aftermath are the personal items that no insurance can replace, like photographs and handwritten letters.
Hope everyone made it through the nightmare to one day dream again.

thank you dear Lorry for such a compassionate review…..happily escaped!

I have seen pictures on the news...Black Mountain destroyed....I am so sorry for the loss of your town, but also grateful you and your husband are safe.
I used to stay in Black Mountain on my trips to NC to see my folks in Whispering Pines.
I hope there can be reconstruction.
This poem is so stark in its images....you bottle the chaos and show us how scary it was and is.
