VALLEY OF NOWHERE

VALLEY OF NOWHERE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Chaos

"

Sea of mud tumbles from high green carpets

of mountains

rain water surges over blue boulders

permeating earth

survival

bridges slump into raging rivers

seizing houses in its wrath

crevice roads

Leaves lay heavy on branches

on the brink of a snap

twist over power grid

mother earth plays tricks on us

catches us by surprise

Dark, murky windows

flicker of a candle of hope

saws buzz day and night

roads blocked with collapse

tangled wires wrap around tree trunks

signs warn, police lights flicker

lakes of mud

Moments of silence

amid chaos

trapped in its misery

Makes me think of mother earth her resilence tested to the limit through humanity's constant abuse and pilliage of her beautiful lands, seas and those many diverse creatures we should at least be accomadating instead of reducing their habitats etc. Yep, ' the lady doth protest ' and with unstopable force, mankind beware!!!

i remember my experiences in the aftermath of the 2011 great east japan earthquake. the normal lives we had led, which we all took for granted, was flipped upside down and the world around us was unrecognizable. i wasn't in the way of the tsunami, but i did later visit the stricken areas. drove around to see whole towns completely flattened. apocalyptic. it is a weird feeling: the whole nation bein in grief, as i imagine america is now.

Thank you Em for your visit and your fine review.

I saw the destruction online and couldn't believe it. The reports from citizens that live in Tennessee and other states are the ones who give the real stories, the real horror of the situation. I'm sorry if you had to go through it. No one should. Your words detail the sadness and devastation. I hope there are no more deaths from it. There have too many as it is.

Hi Betty,
How are you doing?
I am definitely better and finally put some of the weight I lost back on...sounds weird to write it...
Anyway, I so loved your poem...
I am going to send you a private message in a couple of minutes, so look for it..okay?
And, i just read your bio...I did not realise you also paint...like me... or did you tell me that a while back???
Painting and poetry go hand in hand and I am so happy that I do both.
More later,

Good to read about that. I am glad you are fine. You are most welcome friend. 😃
Been there Betty I could feel it in this poem that is so carefully worded to convey the feeling of destruction and the nothing that one is left with afterwards. Very nice

Sounds very much like the effects of the two recent major hurricanes the country has seen. Mother Nature is nice, except when she ain't.

we can wiped out in the blink of a star if mother nature so wishes and you describe living throught the disaster she created for you Betty so vividly.
When we see these dreadful weather happenings in other countries it wakes us humble enough to know the suffering short and long term is immense..

ouch. well at least you can write about it. the bad side of mother nature. sometimes not good to cross her - better to keep to the higher ground. skillfully told at the high water mark.
