DOUBLE NIGHTMARESA Poem by Betty HermeleeNightmares, fearWe lay under a pale blue moon a plaid blanket below us, soft, white sand an eve of sensual satisfaction we are fatigued and ready to close our eyes seek to query our dreams at the break of dawn
We situate face to face arms surround music of night creatures serenade us
DREAM 1 I ride on a cloud moves in sync with same in a blue gray sky thin air consumes my lungs in a curious mood until the cumulus clouds turn black grow big and wild along with rain pellets clouds burst open fling me to earth I am lost, where is my love
DREAM 2 I swim in a crystal-clear lake water is frigid, yet energizing in the heat of summer turn on my back to float notions sway to a slight breeze white half-moon appears along with a brilliant sun a fortuitous omen time passes and I am far from land weary and fear to return scream for help my voice echoes up to the hills I am lost, I may drown
We awaken with a shout weep of our nightmares in fright until we touch each other’s faces in relief that they were mere fantasy © 2024 Betty HermeleeAuthor's Note
