DOUBLE NIGHTMARES

DOUBLE NIGHTMARES

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Nightmares, fear

"

We lay under a pale blue moon

a plaid blanket below us, soft, white sand

an eve of sensual satisfaction

we are fatigued and ready to close our eyes

seek to query our dreams

at the break of dawn

We situate face to face

arms surround

music of night creatures

serenade us

DREAM 1

I ride on a cloud

moves in sync with same

in a blue gray sky

thin air consumes my lungs

in a curious mood

until the cumulus clouds turn black

grow big and wild

along with rain pellets

clouds burst open

fling me to earth

I am lost, where is my love

DREAM 2

I swim in a crystal-clear lake

water is frigid, yet energizing

in the heat of summer

turn on my back to float

notions sway to a slight breeze

white half-moon appears

along with a brilliant sun

a fortuitous omen

time passes and I am far from land

weary and fear to return

scream for help

my voice echoes up to the hills

I am lost, I may drown

We awaken with a shout

weep of our nightmares in fright

until we touch each other’s faces

in relief that they were mere fantasy

Thank you for visiting and a lovely review!
Warmly, B
dearest Betty... we had a night of lightening and thunderstorms.. we felt threatened that the Roof would be ripped away and we would be among the Stars. The Blue Moon smiled and sang a Song. When we awoke a Light with Lavender and Gold brought Comfort as the Birds began to Chirp. Nature has a way of Painting the new born Day. Glad you are in a safe Haven. softly, Pat

Thanks Ken for your dreamy review....

I can see where extreme fatigue can cause nightmares; in this case the author had too. I felt them both in her words. Excellent description of those cases. The reader is taken on these fearful journeys.
Glad you are both safe.

Much relief. You are welcome.
I wonder what Dr. Freud would have made of this one. The two dreams are alike in that in both the dreamer feels in danger, and in both the danger comes not from other people, but from nature. Interesting also is the fact that the lover was also having fearful dreams. Could it be this romance is on shaky ground?

another great poem. There is nothing like a loved one to chase your fears away.

Oops! Nearly lost myself in the nightmare. Aptly described coupled with the ability to make readers live the dream exactly as it was described. Well done!

An excellently penned poem depicting nightmares which occurred as they do for everybody from time to time. As I read I could feel the relief felt of waking up and being in bed safe and realising that what was experienced was only a dream, a bad one, but still a dream, not reality. Wonderful imagery throughout the write which imparted both the content of the dreams and their effect on the dreamer. Very interesting write, Betty. Thank you for sharing...

It's a good write, thank you.
Dreams are said to echo a live day's debris. If that be the case you have expelled some mighty and scarring fears in this make-believe, my dear friend. That said, usually you are apt to place gentle bewilderment in your poetry, unlike some who determine to make mock of life, sure he/she/they are the confused untouchables of long ago. How we need you for your a gentle hand and heart, dear, dear Betty. Such fine, logical and conciliatory writing.

'until we touch each other’s faces
in relief that they were mere fantasy'

As I recall (or not!) 'fantasy is often where a forgetful mind lives, because, - there is nowhere else to go'
