A SPECIAL VISIT

A SPECIAL VISIT

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

and so it goes....

"

I awaken feeling clammy and with headache

the day is finally here

I shall visit my soldier, long awaited special day

t’s early, I decide to bathe to deep cleanse myself

important to smell delicious for him

excited and scared, I make the water very hot

pour in some bubbles and try to relax for a while

I cannot relax! I dry off, put on my lounging gown

and make some tea

then I pace the room all the while to determine

what to say to my love, and at long last I know

I am dressed and ready for my cab to take me to the hospital

my anxiety level reaches to the tree tops

and I can view the sun peep through

t’s a bright day, if only my mood mimics

I have rehearsed all my words

yet in my agitation, I may well draw a blank

shops and people wiz by as we near the hospital

I have not had time to do some shopping in these

enticing shops along the way

too much preparation for other important matters

we pass so many stunning churches

the architecture brings a smile to my lips

At once, we pull up to the hospital

my hands shake as I try to pull out some money

for the driver

must clear my throat a few times to thank him

there are many steps up to the entrance

massive building I shall say

the  space inside is quite antiseptic, looks new

I inquire where my soldier’s room is located

the receptionist tells me to wait one moment

my heart flutters like a humming bird

I apprise her of his name

she reveals that it is on the seventh floor

war casualties ward

I flinch when I hear that name

my mind’s picture is frightening

I step out of the newly installed elevator with tremble

a nurse inquires of my presence

I provide a name and my relationship

she leads me to his room

all the while I sense a weakness in my legs

she opens the door and there are two beds

I can barely recognize who is who

she leads me to his bed

Ohhhh dear Betty! It ended too soon! Give us more, please! The suspense is built up so! I just keep envisioning this reunion!

The chapter begins on a high note of anticipation that keeps building up and reaches a crescendo when she reaches the soldier's room. A shiver of apprehension ran down me as regards his condition. There felt a slight foreboding feeling to it....

I loved the description of the day and all the exquisite details you put in throughout the morning preparation and the drive to the hospital. It all added to the thrill. The story is reaching a very exciting point and all of us are waiting eagarlr for the next bit! Adored the read!
