A DAY OFF

A DAY OFF

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

in between....

"

I am somewhat energized by a virtuous night’s sleep

I have made my decision to go visit my soldier as soon as possible

though, since today is Sunday, I shall give myself a treat and stroll through the park across the way and  pinch myself to be calm and peaceful

ti’s a sunny day as I peek through my curtains

I look to see what people are clothed in for my outfit

no overcoats or sweaters

I decide to wear a comfortable dress

I can fit into most of my clothes, yet I dare not purchase anything new now because I am still without obvious show

After my breakfast and a quick chat with my hostess

I am on my way with lunch in hand to the park

I exit the building  and a cool breeze greets me

to breathe in the various scents which elevate my spirit

today I am free of burden

considering all that I have endured

I shall not dwell on anything adversely

the trees, the grass, the birds, and the bees are mine to enjoy

I find a shaded path to stroll

the air smells like honeydew, everything is green

except for the roses of many colors

little creatures like bunnies, squirrels , pigeons surround me

I am truly in heaven

there is so much to savor, it is delightful

at once, my belly grumbles, a signal I must eat

the cook at the hotel packs me a sardine sandwich

some small sweet pickles, chips, and a chocolate cookie

I continue to walk until I see a vacant picnic bench

the one I choose is in the shade with an appealing view

When I finish my lunch, I stroll back towards the hotel

soaking up all the activity around me and feeling quite

content with myself

I truly need this day to settle for the big event tomorrow

I am somewhat concerned about putting my foot in my mouth again (twice now, which must be some kind of record) and again offering a comment that has nothing whatsoever to do with the intended story line, however, I will wash my feet and offer a few, hopefully relevant, words.
Personally, I am concerned about what might come as a total shock to this clueless warrior who has already suffered enough to be confined to a hospital bed! (after all, how much trauma can a body deal with without further emotional harm taking place!!??!! dear Betty)
On the other hand, he may be overcome with absolute joy at the prospect of becoming a father (this is, if you'll remember, where I had previously put my foot in my mouth, the very same foot that now seems to be remaining in place during this commentary-such relief!!!) and your confession may bind the two of you even that much closer together.
It is only 'warmly, BESTB' who can determine whatever outcome while her many readers can only wait in august anticipation!
I hope you have a pleasant day.

A wonderful day described. I took my grandchildren to Metro beach in Michigan. A place to walk near the river and the lake. We near these moments dear Betty. A amazing story shared in the poetry my dear friend. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

You are welcome dear Betty.
I do admire and so enjoyed the stroll you take reader along with you here, a chance to unwind, regroup and gather one's thoughts, and here in the this picturesque setting with encouragment from nature's sights, sounds and smells, our ' batteries ' recharged, whatever tomorrow, bring it on!!

Dear Ken, you are so complimentary, “it raises my spirits”….. thank you

The lovely accompanying picture shows us what the young lady is beholding. As she notes, she needs it after what she has been through. The depiction of the natural beauty of the place is excellent, and it makes us glad for her. But of course, there is tomorrow, and what it will bring.

'tis good to take some time for the proverbial smelling of roses. "the air smells like honeydew" jumped out at me and really highlighted the pleasant, relaxing scene. could it be the calm before the storm? ...

Maybe Pete! Thank so much for your great reviews, much appreciated…

The park is beautiful and the city seems so exciting. Merely taking in those sight, sounds and scents is enough for her to be distracted temporarily from her woes.
Indeed, I draw much inspiration from
your narration here, dear Betty. A good outing and great new surroundings do wonders for the morale, especially in troubled times.

She's wise to treat herself thus and take a day off from her worries. She knows what uncertainty lies in the days to follow and uses this very pleasant Sunday to rest and replenish her strength and flagging spirit.

Tomorrow is another day and she'll be meeting her soldier soon. Yet whatever the meeting brings, I think this young lady will go on and persevere.

A wonderfully written chapter. Kudos!

How appropriately your wording lies in the past, you have time so well laid in this effervescent tale of love and bewilderment. Seems there is far more to come, touches of mystery, perhaps worry and more. Not surprisingly - as written by you, this is such an intriguing post, Betty!

How lovely that she has managed to calm herself now and gone for a stroll in the park, i feel she is accepting now of the situation and ready to tell her soldier whatever the outcome may be.
We still don't know much about him or his injuries so that might have a bearing on what she will decide to do.
Lovely imagery as always Betty, the London parks as i remember are beautiful , just right to take her mind off the problem if only for a little while.
