A DAY OFF

A DAY OFF

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

in between....

"

I am somewhat energized by a virtuous night’s sleep

I have made my decision to go visit my soldier as soon as possible

though, since today is Sunday, I shall give myself a treat and stroll through the park across the way and  pinch myself to be calm and peaceful

ti’s a sunny day as I peek through my curtains

I look to see what people are clothed in for my outfit

no overcoats or sweaters

I decide to wear a comfortable dress

I can fit into most of my clothes, yet I dare not purchase anything new now because I am still without obvious show

After my breakfast and a quick chat with my hostess

I am on my way with lunch in hand to the park

I exit the building  and a cool breeze greets me

to breathe in the various scents which elevate my spirit

today I am free of burden

considering all that I have endured

I shall not dwell on anything adversely

the trees, the grass, the birds, and the bees are mine to enjoy

I find a shaded path to stroll

the air smells like honeydew, everything is green

except for the roses of many colors

little creatures like bunnies, squirrels , pigeons surround me

I am truly in heaven

there is so much to savor, it is delightful

at once, my belly grumbles, a signal I must eat

the cook at the hotel packs me a sardine sandwich

some small sweet pickles, chips, and a chocolate cookie

I continue to walk until I see a vacant picnic bench

the one I choose is in the shade with an appealing view

When I finish my lunch, I stroll back towards the hotel

soaking up all the activity around me and feeling quite

content with myself

I truly need this day to settle for the big event tomorrow

I read this and thought, "what a perfect few hours spent, going to the park, enjoying the flora and fauna, having lunch and returning." It sounds like a great day in the city. (I might forgo the sardines. Chicken salad is more my style) A very nice read. I think I feel a dose of calm coming on.

It’s funny this poem reads like a walk in the park, just smooth flowing with that calm ambience. Nice one Betty.

Vividly descriptive, stimulates the five senses.
I love how she positively-mindfully calms and 'clears' herself for her big day!

I love this very sensible lady in your amazing poem, dear Betty. She is a very practical lady and it is wonderful that she enjoyed a good night's rest and sleep before going to visit her beloved next day. Her journey through the park is idyllic and she finds peace in being surrounded by Mother Nature and all the adorable little animals. She enjoyed her lunch and the stroll before heading back to reality again to face the big day tomorrow. Intriguing series, dear Betty. A truly sweet and adorable write. I can't wait to read the next installment!!! PH won't allow me beyond Page 2 of your wonderful poetic works! I am delighted to be able to catch up today. Thank you so very much for sharing your beautiful poetry, dear Betty. Love it...

Thank you so very much, Betty...
It sounds like nature, the fresh air and a bit of sunshine was exactly what this woman needed to calm her mind and enliven her spirit before seeing her soldier the next day. She leaves worry for tomorrow and enjoy the moment.

My mind wanders with all the possibilities that tomorrow will bring for this dear lady. This story keeps me coming back for more each time I read it.

dear Betty… so this is how a Star is born… almost a “play on words”. Having given Birth twice myself in Situations .. I am emotionally entwined and absolutely feel her emotions of feeling blessed about creating a Child; however, it is as difficult as painting a Masterpiece. gently, Pat
