NEWSBREAK

NEWSBREAK

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

and so it goes...

"

My fidgety wait time seems like hours

while chaotic thoughts wiz through my mind

alas there is a soft knock on the door

it opens slowly, and a man in a starched white coat

with a broad smile moves into the examining room

he introduces himself as Dr. Snell

which I find quite amusing

we shake hands, I tense up, mine feel clammy

I sense that he is gentle in his mannerisms

We talk for quite a long while

he asks me questions, many of which are fully intimate

to be honest, down right unpleasant

he motions me to lay down on the examining table

to performs certain tasks

presently, he presses on my belly in different places

thereafter he sets the stethoscope  in various  positions and listens intently, all the while I am  extremely sweaty and uneasy

Silence for a lengthy time

then the nurse walks in and orders me to dress

silence

this enhances my curiosity

finally, the nurse shows me into the doctor’s office

forthwith the doctor’s white coat disappears

and he is presently wearing a shirt and tie

more relaxed, I assume

He smiles and begins to speak

it goes without saying my anxiety peaks

he calls me by name and spills the news

rather swiftly

he relates that I am about three months pregnant

my jaw drops to the floor

the affirmative causes me to jump out of my chair

yet I try desperately to remain calm by holding tight

while a trillion messages tangle in my brain

he asks me about family support, as he did previously

I disclose that my fiancée is my only support

The doctor advises me that I must have monthly visits

as I progress in my pregnancy

I nod, my mouth speechless

he renders his professional card

I thank him and proceed to the door

I walk wobbly to retrieve a cab

Upon return to the hotel

once there I cannot help my bawling

on the hostess’s shoulder

she does not yet comprehend why

tears like a waterfall stain her dress

I am so happy I have come across this so poignant narrative, dear Betty. I must have read part two before this part and wonder if this is part one? A great shock for this lovely lady to discover that she is pregnant and you paint a very impressive picture of the dismay felt, for your reader. I am so happy the doctor is kind to this lovely lady and I can't wait for the story in which she tells her beloved soldier the good news. I am praying for a very loving reaction from him and a very happy ending for the three of them. Marvellous work, dear Betty. Please let me know if I have missed some of the story as I want to get up to date with it. Love your work, dear friend and THANK YOU! for sharing...

I most assuredly have jumped into this story mid way lol but i do love a prose filled piece of story I wish more writers would include poetry in there stories everything seems so dry these days I dont know maybe im biased but when I pick up a book they seem to lack a refined grace

Having followed the previous chapters to this adventure the question becomes one of timing. And the tears are they of joy or despair? What does the future hold? Still several turns to be taken on this voyage. Nicely written Betty

Conformation of an unplanned pregmany the outcome, what a surprise or more like shock it came to the lady here just after a rather anxious examination with a medical practicioner, I note the lady returned to a hotel, was she like many before and now one from the oldest profession in the world as it's sometimes commonly referred too? Whatever, big life changing decisions ahead her!!

A cpmpelling read, contemporary of the time as well as down through the generaations before!

U are welcome. Keep writing.
I had a feeling it would work out this way. The young lady's worst fears are now realized, and she faces an uncertain future. We can only wish her the best and hope for same.

the saga continues to unfold as you lay out the latest scene. no detail or thought too small as you raise the curtain. sad that she is sad for what ought be a joyous news. she is a woman torn. what will she ever do?

Oh what complex lives we lead when we practice to deceive. Betty, you are remarkable at depicting this period of time and the shame and complications of a pregnancy in these circumstances. So vastly different from current times in the western world. I do admire your approach to this story as it unfolds. Loving it. Have a great Sunday dear poet.
