DREAM OF CONFUSION

DREAM OF CONFUSION

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

A dream, A nightmare

"

Last eve my sleep with blended dreams causes

me uneasiness and a bit of contentment

a visit with my soldier is splendid

he recognizes me straight away

he seems well heeled with the news of my pregnancy

and a hearty smile, elated to have a family with me

He is on the mend and is desperate to leave the hospital

I bestow a kiss, he absorbs with contentment

the uneasy piece of the dream is the query

about whether he returns home or reports to his base

he has no answers currently

this is what prompts my concern

shall I raise a child alone?

we both hug and he permits me to rest my head on his chest until the nurse enters

I awaken to reality

must prepare to see the doctor today

my stomach flutters a I dress and powder my face

ready myself physically and try mentally

I shall eat a small breakfast downstairs before I leave

all the while I eat, I muse about questions the doctor

may ask of me and those I should ask of him

therefore, I write my questions on a small note pad

or else I may forget, not at all unusual for me

My hostess calls a cab and I ready myself for the ride

the cab driver is quite chatty which is pleasant

to keep me from picking my fingernails

over my worry

Sometimes I muse that this whole matter

is a very atrocious nightmare

what happened?

how did I shoulder this reality?

it is all extremely upsetting

We arrive at the doctor’s clinic

and check in with the receptionist

a nurse calls my name and I follow her

I am now in a private room with a strong

medicinal odor

Those clinic rooms with a strong medicinal odour are not strangers to me .. but I sweat when I think back on them and imagine what might have been .. I just knew I was on the write track when I closed the page on your previous journal entry .. My appetite was whetted back then .. Now I am near ravenously hungry .. Write on Betty, as if you haven't already :) Neville

You are more than warmly welcome Betty :)
Truly an engaging write, dear Betty. Your poem beautifully captures the intersection of fear, hope, and the everyday details of life. I hope she is no longer anxious about the situation. I'm eagerly awaiting to read what happens next.

Wishing you a beautiful day ☺️

Most welcome dear friend!
the saga continues. i always enjoy how you elevate mundane details and make them so telling to the story line. can offer a small correction (don't want to offend)?

Although my visits to both the cafe and your page are less than frequent I do enjoy reading you, though seldom do I review as my reviewing skills if marked from 1-10 would probably score -3. The language you use takes me back, in my mind , to WW1. Imagine how unmarried(is she unmarried) mothers were viewed back then.
You are amongst the most gifted on this site Betty and have such a generous heart when it comes to all matters reviewing:)
Hope you are keeping well.

The tale has now brought us to the moment of truth. Our heroine has had dreams of a happy ending to this story, but they are just dreams. In the cab on the way to the clinic, she is a bundle of nerves. The story leaves us in the examining room as she awaits the appearance of the doctor. Who knows what he will say?
