TIPPING POINT

TIPPING POINT

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

and life goes on...

"

I believe the hostess at my hotel

senses my exhaustion

and holds the etiquette to a threshold

she must discern that my eyelashes

flutter from fatigue

we complete the tea party

and she offers to help me with my luggage

at once, I duly note a young man

who hastens down the hall steps

and offers to assist

I presume her son

My weary body propels itself

up the steps to the second floor

room number two

he opens the door

and he sets my luggage near the bed

then proceeds to fling open the window curtains

to my astonishment there is a park across the way

I thank him and tip appropriately

At present I am peaceful

I strive to keep my eyes open

to admire the view from the window

trees with bountiful leaves

gardens with tulips of all colors

a play field with numerous children

running, kicking balls, swinging, sliding

squealing with joy and acting applicably

in addition, many people strolling

the sidewalks, babies in prams and dogs on leashes

All of this is bright yet I must not forget

why I am here

and that frame of mind

is quite disturbing

I sense a headache upon me, likely anxiety

before my visit to the doctor

how shall he judge me?

I do hope he is gentle and kind

my spirit is plenary with distress

My life is at a tipping point

I await the doctor to allow some advice

concerning my path forward

A disturbing state of mind amidst lovely surroundings! There's a park across the road! She's calm yet disturbed in turns. The anxiety keeps rushing back in intervals. Been there so I can relate. Tipping point is such an apt title for this chapter. The events to follow will be very decisive for her life. You're a wonderful storyteller, my friend.

The tension is building up. That visit to the Doctor will certainly bring things to a head. What next? This is turning into a cliff hanger Betty. Pleased I am not in her shoes, particularly during the time period this is set. Write on. Your readers are waiting.

The young lady has almost come to the moment of truth. Finally ensconced in comfortable quarters, she now awaits her appointment with the doctor. She is frankly distressed and apparently hasn't come to a final conclusion as to how she will proceed. We must remember this is 1945, when an operation like this one wasn't discussed openly. We can only wait to see what the doctor says.

This writing and others along with its companions could become a headline in the Cafe's history, Betty. :) Your story-telling adds just enough interest for the reader's eyes to rush for more, taking the details of people and surroundings in the way intended. Background vital, thoughts meant to be noticed. Is this a tragedy, mystery or - wait and see.

I await the doctor.. '

When you slow the pace, we get tensed and as you remove the window curtains, we too are breathing with the garden... Like a full authority on the readers in a delightful and gentle way. I'm eagerly waiting for the next 🤍
