PAINTED GRIMACE

PAINTED GRIMACE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

immorality

"

In my dream

shrouded in a blue web

tethered to a knot of thorns

torment runs through my veins

I fail to entrust him straightaway

a swindler I would say

he dupes while playing a sugary hand

his grimace is fully painted

smells of immorality

Must shelter my core

shear the knot

then crawl through the web of revilement

bathe myself in warm water with

rose petals and lavender

plus relinquish his heart down to the bones

I awaken cloaked with sweat

a waterfall of droplets on my sheet

peace within me now

Dear Betty,

The blue web feels sinister. To be trapped in it would be damning. It felt like a cold hell created by a very evil persona. The whiff of him is all things unpleasant. Hence, the need to scrub oneself, douse oneself in rose petals and lavender after being connected with him.

I loved where you took me with this poem. Oh how we long for an absolute cleaning of body, heart and soul if came in touch with someone so vile. Strong, strong imagery and a bouquet full of thoughts to ponder on!

Then the dream resolves and she awakens sweating but in peace. She has managed to erase him from her being. In that, she's accomplished an almost impossible feat.

Your writing never fails to delight and enthrall!

Some dreams we long to linger in just a bit longer where others we long to exit as quickly as possible. Nicely expressed Betty.

Dreams speak our intuitions to us. It's like we're telling ourselves to trust our gut.

Like the Highlander song by Queen asks, "Who Want's to Live Forever?" But that is the "prize". This is a wonderful poem from you. I enjoyed reading it. The descriptions are powerful and the phraseology wanted nothing. Great ink, F.

Dreams speak to us as warnings. I admire the imagery you have presented to illustrate the lies and deceit of this swindler. Your courage and confidence shine with the cleansing of the darkness to allow tranquility in its place.

Sometimes dreams can be the mirror of our unconscious or distant experiences. It is truly admirable how you affirm 'Must shelter my core'. We have already allowed much of this world to hurt us but we do deserve a peace now. It is inspiring and beautiful write, Betty. I wish you always have that beautiful, heartwarming smile on your face.
