NEW FRONTIERS

NEW FRONTIERS

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

journey on...

"

The cab ride invigorates me

Bustling streets thick with people

Shoulder to shoulder

Many with briefcases

Others with backpacks

Stylish women coiffed flawlessly

Men with hats and brims

Long trench coats

Plenty with umbrellas

Rain must be frequent

Ornate buildings

Some with statuettes

Others with gold leaf trim

Circular streets with grand marble sculptures

Quite different from home

I realize the British drive on the left

The cab driver cautioned me

To be mindful of crossing the streets

Quite a few fashionable shops long the sidewalks

I shall take advantage if time permits

And buy a new dress to meet my soldier love

Suddenly my face droops, my head bows

My stomach embarks on a bumpy ride

My hands clammy

It must be a return to reality

I simply dread my life at this moment

All scattered and not in a neat little pile

Where do I begin from here?

The ship was so uncomplicated

Except for the affair, yet that is over

So undemanding and accommodating

Hence, I find myself  in a strange country

Utterly lost and alone once more

Wonderful London with its "sidewalks" which made me smile, yes a truly different experience for those not used to our English ways .
She would have been surprised if not a little overawed at the sights of this old city.
Has to be brave tho' and carry on ..

Such a fabulous description of London of a bygone age.
Your words appeal so much to the traveler in me. I wish to cross the sea of time and be with her in that moment of discovery of a new country. Inspite of all the anxiety, it would still be so exciting!
Yet one must not forget she's very worried about her state and how things shape up for her.

" The ship was so uncomplicated
Except for the affair, yet that is over
So undemanding and accommodating"

~ These lines were very telling of her state of mind. Reading on with much interest and anticipation!

Wow, Betty I love this , yes new frontiers, you have a way of bringing words together but have meaning with great flow. But this write takes what the reader see, don't feel bad if your view isn't what he saw but your work that made him or her Change and that's poetry
