CIRCUMSTANCES

CIRCUMSTANCES

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

to be continued!

"

I awaken at dawn with head pain

on the morning of

my debarkation, a disturbed slumber

My mind roams from home, to ship, to London, to my soldier embracing some idiotic notions too sheepish to reveal

I endeavor to prepare tea in the middle of the eve

To settle my nerves yet I still quiver from head to toe

Return  to my fluffy comforter eyes wide open

I peer out of my porthole at six o’clock to view a burgeoning sunrise with wings of

Purple and balloons of orange

T'is almost past the horizon

Yet a moment of deep thought impedes

My stunning scene and these concerns are my plausible plight

Which lives within me day and night

grates on my worry and meddles with my ordinary affairs

the essence is that I must find a doctor in London

Before I disembark, I shall speak with the purser to locate

a doctor and to seek a small hotel near the hospital where my soldier is confined

I shall send him a telegram from the ship informing

Of my impending visit and sending my love, of course

All this in due time as we must disembark in several hours

I sit on my trunk expecting the porter to arrive soon to

remove by baggage

Reflect a moment on the voyage, the joys the sorrows, the tears, and the laughs, all commingle together now

I have achieved my aim so far, although my future is uncertain

This is quite the tale spin in this poem. Voyage on a ship with nerves all electric and on edge. A soldier that is confined in a hospital. All while watching a beautiful sunrise out the porthole of a ship.

Thank you for taking me on this amazing journey with your words and images painted

An adventure of possibilities reminiscent of a period during world war 2 comes to mind. Good luck with your eye surgery Betty.

Thank you so much Thomas, much appreciated
Warmly, B,
Well, the young lady is on the way home now, and she is worried. That worry is centered around a visit to the doctor after she disembarks. I have a feeling as to what kind of service she will be seeking from the doctor, but then again, maybe not. Good luck with your surgery, B.
