NIGHT MUSIC

NIGHT MUSIC

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

haunting cries in the night, befriended photo by Alpha Coders

"

Icy breaths spew steam on the snowy

mountaintops

wind whips among the crooked trees

wolves scream in the black of night

echoes between flat crevice rocks

sheer drop to the earth

I listen to these voices every night, my window cracked open

I am surprised at different tones coming from up high

and wonder what this chatter means

I fear the wolves are not hearty and

are unable to weather the frigid

like me when I am in the cold trying to find them

these misty songs are my only friends, my night music

My older sister deserts me every eve

after she tucks me in bed

at that time, I crack the window

and lend an ear to the eerie cry of love

almost like my spooky cries of loneliness

we are friendless night creatures

who have never seen each other

An experience dear Betty, I have never had. No wolves ( of the animal kind) where I live or have lived. You brought me wonderful imagery. I pictured you clearly. The howling, would in a strange way have given me a comfort of sorts. I felt the lonely here. Wonderful write.

Read aloud, twice, Betty!. You have used a wonderfully haunting collection of letters - thus words, that make specific sounds as if from high places, drifting through and within endless space. Superbly created, can hear them even now as I type!

The stunning picture beckons the reader in and holds her! Wonderful

Absolutely beautiful work Betty. Canvas splashed with such mastery it's impossible not to picture the magical scene you write.

One of your best, plus an image which is an impressively powerful piece of artwork
I wish it was one of my efforts
I do relate to the wild Wolf but not so sure I'd like to become best friends
Best wishes BESTB

You have done well in capturing the haunting sensation of longing in this poem, a melancholy overture of a lonely life.
